about me

My name is Mary. I read everything from romance to military sci-fi, but for me, it's not so much the genre as the characters. I have to be able to hear the voice of the character as I read.

I can be reached at mmcdonald64 at gmail . com

Or, friend me on Facebook. Mary LeMieux McDonald

~~*IMPORTANT NOTE*--11/03/09, I changed the title of my book from The Right to Dream, to Enemy Combatant. So, if you stumble upon my book, and think it sounds awfully familiar, there's a reason. :-)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

**I return all reads, usually within 24-48 hours. Depends on my work schedule. No need to ask for swaps, if you read mine, I'll read yours.

12/3/09--Just added a new bookcover that I made from a sketch I did years ago. Since I envision my main character like that, I decided to use it.

10/19/09--My book is complete at 95,000 words. I've only uploaded the first 32,000 here.

favourite books

The Grapes of Wrath, The Clan of the Cave Bear Series, Roots, Morning Glory, The Pillars of the Earth, The Physician, and too many more to name.

Shades of Gray

Mary McDonald

In SHADES OF GRAY, a mysterious camera, prophetic dreams and betrayal send Mark Taylor to prison. No trials, no rights, no way out.

No rights, no trial, no way out.

Federal investigators imprison Mark Taylor in a US Naval brig for months after 9/11. Interrogators use every method at their disposal to elicit answers on how he knew the attack would occur. They don't believe the truth: Mark has a camera that photographs the future--photographs that trigger him to dream every detail leading up to the photograph.

Deciding Mark's mentally unbalanced but not a threat, the lead investigator finally releases him. Back in Chicago, homeless, broke, and possessing only the clothes on his back, Mark tries to forget the past and start anew. But then his camera shows another attack is imminent--and the only person who can stop it is Mark's former interrogator. This time, Mark must convince the man to believe him.

For Nobody's Knight-- You have a great hook with the first line in your pitch. I envy you that! lol. The story opens and I get the impression of an old time fairytale. I'm thinking like Jack and the Beanstalk or a legendary tale, like Paul Bunyan. The world building is wonderful, I feel like I'm ... view book

Hi, I just read the first chapter of your book. While not a genre I'd normally read, this is interesting. I can see that Wolf and Luna (great names, btw) are on a path to meet and I'm sure their story will be full of surprises. Good job with the writing. It's a nice mix of dialogue and narrative. view book

A Sister's Promise-- What a wonderful story. As a mother, I couldn't help being drawn in. I love the scene at the park and how Kate drew the mother and daughter. The writing is tight, and I was so busy reading, I forgot to look for and didn't notice anything to nitpick. view book

No Heaven-- Excellent writing. I love some of your phrasing, like a ball of razors. Very apt description! The premise is great too and the last line in chapter two is enough to give one chills. . My only nitpick would be the word 'suddenly'. I saw two in one line(different sentences, but onl... view book

Ponte Santa Trinita-- The first line of this book is fantastic. Talk about making an impact. The end of chapter one also is great. There' no way a person could put the book down after that. The second chapter unfolds a bit more slowly, but I like the pace. It fleshes out the characters. I did hav... view book
