Feathered

Tamara Boyens

It's not easy being Feathered. Omari has a very normal veterinarian job in Northern California, but her winged life is anything but typical.

Being born as a victim of Icarus Syndrome, Omari has to deal with the consequences of being winged. A victim of cruel medical experiments as a child, she does her best to live a normal life despite the fact that she is graced with enormous feathered wings.

Although she owns her own veterinary practice, Omari has difficulties forming lasting friendships, and her love life is pitted with long strings of one night stands and cursory flings. Trained in the martial art Aikido, she takes solace in the peace found in meditation and consulting with her fellow Aikido teachers.

The rhythm of her daily life is disturbed when she returns to a destroyed house full of dead animals, and she is severely injured by the same wicked trap. While Omari searches for those responsible for the attack, Noah, a courageous paramedic, becomes involved in the investigation, and romance blooms between them in the ensuing chaos.

Omari must find and stop the people attempting to harm her before both her and Noah's lives are lost.

This was a fun read. I enjoyed it immensly. There were few, if any, typos/errors etc, and it had an original appeal. I'm writing a story about a girl who grows wings (actually I'm in the editing stage) and I hadn't thought about feathered wings in quite the same light, and I must say I was impressed. And using a syndrome to explain it was clever. I'm definitely backing this novel, and I hope you'll take a look at mine. I'd really like the opinion of someone who had a "feel" for winged people and such!

I look foreward to reading more of this book!

This is an interesting idea. I don't think I have ever heard of anything like. To be honest, I read the pitch and the story wasn't quiet what I imagined it would be. Through the pitch I thought I would find Omari hiding what she is but then in the opening chapter she is flying around and picking up a surfer.
I thought she would be ashamed, but it doesn't seem that way at all.
SO that took me by surprise. It appears as though this is going to have less angst than I imagines for in her town people know about it.
I am intrigued, to say the least, and am going to keep reading. The writing is smooth and direct. You have a knack for drawing a character for Omari is different and yet the same.
Good stuff. Backed

I want Icarus Syndrome! Doh not fair that I haven't got big feather wings to soar in the sky! :0)

If you suspend disbelief, which I try and do at every given opportunity then I can see this book being a huge success. Only managed the first four chapters but I'll try and read on. In the meantime backed with pleasure.

What a fantastic idea, I'm really impressed with just how original it is. It is outrageous, yet your writing makes it seem believable, and that is impressive. You have said to me that this is a clunky first draft, and yeah, I can see the odd mistake, ie tan instead of tanned, but they are tiny little errors that barely even notice when reading through the wondrous world you have created here. The dialogue is impeccable, the characters have life to them and feel totally real, and overall this is just a fantastic piece of work. Would probably make a great series, similar to heroes, where it gets darker as Omari discovers the hidden secrets behind her ability.

This is an easy summer read, the kind my mom use to read when we went camping. The only time I would ever see her read was on holidays. Feathered is fun and entertaining. Although I wondered about the ankle length hair, thought those poor girls must have terrible headaches. There were a few place I thought that you could tighten it up. For ex- two sentences in a row start with The concert. Well one is actually The concerts but it's close enough. Back for the fun of it. C.P

I had some trouble suspending my belief, but this is fantasy after all. If one had wings they would be enormous, they would get in the way, people would stare etc. This is fun and I would like to back this book for its panache.
