You express Adriana's anxiety about going to a strange country so well, and also include background information about her family effectively to give the character and situation more depth. It was quite heart rending that she didn't have the heart to tell her parents she was frightened to go, because they thought they were giving her a great and exciting opportunity. This also adds to the sense that her character is quite mature, keeping her feelings to herself for the sake of her parents, which fits with her also feeling responsible for her twin brothers. I laughed however at the fact that she soon became a lot more enthusiastic about going when she saw the photograph of the 'cute' guy; little touches like that make this an entertaining read and allow the reader to connect with Adriana. I can see why your ESL students would love this.

This is a lesson that we all can learn from. I will read this further and get back soon. Let me know what you think of "Just Out of Sight". It is in a different genre all together. I hope to be on your bookshelf soon.
