Unquiet Mind

Simon M Gray

A hot and sweaty journey of action and drama, where each page keeps you hanging on to the bitter end for the answer.

Unquiet Mind is an explosive sequel to Blinkered, where once again, Gray lets his multi-perspective of countries, act as a vivid backdrop to the interaction of his principal characters. Three UK schools are attacked by child suicide bombers. The start of a vicious terrorist campaign or something more personal? Cayden, a successful businessman, is floundering in the wake of his girlfriend’s murder two years ago. The bombings threaten to pull him under forever. Itchy; unable to relax, enticed to Miami by Sly Williams, a Homeland Security Agent, Cayden’s attraction for her is a weakness, which she exploits to manipulate him back into the brutal world that murdered his girlfriend. Cayden journeys into the remote Peruvian jungle, protecting a young woman, whose love might just give him the answers he so desperately needs.

Having not read Blinkered, I actually think I’m a perfect test for Unquiet Mind. Once published, not everyone is going to read the series in the correct order. But I can say as someone coming into Unquiet Mind for the first time, I really enjoyed the experience.

The first chapter is really good, and had me wondering why Cayden was running from his pursuers. Was he a spy? An escaped convict? Little details like how different types of dogs track by scent (either on the ground or in the air) were really nice. It’s obvious that author Simon M Gray has some experience in these matters, and I enjoyed being educated and entertained at the same time. And I like the twist in chapter three where we find out what is really going on, and set the stage for the rest of the book.

Cayden writes both action and dialog well. Although only three chapters are posted here, I find myself immediately drawn into the story, which could have been ripped from the headlines of modern day newspapers. Action stories like this one are quite popular, especially when made into a series, and Unquiet Mind will fit in nicely.

Simon. You need to break up your paragraphs. Indent them. It'll be easier on the eye to read.
