My Little Black Book

Splinker

We all have a little black book with our poems in it. Some of us just choose not to put them in words. Here's mine.

My goal is to evoke. I'm not trying to dazzle or impress with a clever turn of phrase. Stories, my stories anyway, require a bit of distance between me and the words. I try to get out of the way of the story. Not so with my poems. These words are from me to you. A story is a bunch of telling, in the end. My poems are a conversation. Each one demands a response.

Hi Splinker,

I was blown away by your poetry.

It evokes the most fantastic imagery and inspires me.

I started making a list of my favourites, but gave up as the list grew too long!

I will keep it on my WL and can't wait to read some more poems.

Highest stars and backed.

Have read a few of you poems, and the short story "Airport."
I like your writing a lot, mainly because it has really good pace and a dry sense of wit, especially in your prose.

The Story Airport is a good idea, telling the Zombie attack classic from the point of view of a zombie, which you have pulled off with skill.
I hope very much that you will bring that skill when you write longer pieces of prose and you can combine it with your poetic insight, which is a more natural mode of your writing.

Your poetry is stunning, and I love the premise of the book, that we've all got a black book.
I like the descriptions of light and I love the one "After" it hit a nerve with me, bringing up the type of memories that we've all got but cannot always express!

Well done, and I look forward to longer pieces, do please direct me to them when they arrive.

Also... I know you've got something in the locker to use as a cover, your poetry is so visual, you must draw or something man!

I'd read some of these before, I've loved reading them again. I don't believe poetry can be 'critiqued' - it is what it is. I can only say I could read these over and over, and I probably will.

Hi splinker

I've put 'My Little Black Book' on my watchlist. I have peculiar working hours so if I don't get back to you for a couple of days don't fret, I will be back.
In the mean time, could you take a quick look at my 'Motive Irrelevant'? It's a crime thriller with a few twists.
Any comments you have would be great.

Regards

RB Ray

I love this. Your goal was to evoke: mission accomplished. I read all of your poems - up to the essays, and found myself thinking how much emotion you were able to put into the few words on each page. Chapter 23 is profound and yes, what happened that day had nothing to do with God. Well done!
