LOGOS TELOS: The Word About the End Times

Bruce Alan McKerras

1 Thessalonians 5:6,7 You are all children of the Light, you do not belong to darkness and we must not sleep like other people.

My belief, and the premise of this book, is that we are, as at 2011, very close to the point where God will allow the commencement of the events leading to the end of this age. This will start with an attack on the Jewish State of Israel by a confederation of Islamic nations and entities. Prophecy clearly tells of the outcome of this attack, God will intervene and devastate much of the Middle East, including Israel. A remnant will survive in Jerusalem. Soon after this, the Land of Greater Israel will be regenerated and Y’hovah’s righteous people will gather and settle there. Problems around the world of food, fuel and the economic situation will lead to the formation of a One World government, led eventually by a powerful and charismatic man. Despite making a peace treaty with New Israel, he will attack and conquer them. This starts the Great Tribulation, as described in the book of Revelation. After 3½ years, the Lord Jesus will Return and commence His Millennial reign.

The House of Juday

JEREMIAH  Chapter one and two - Judah’s First Judgement

The date of Jeremiah’s ministry was approx 590 to 510BC  and the date of Judah’s captivity was 585BC.

Jeremiah 1:5  Jeremiah chosen and appointed as a prophet to the nations.

Jer. 1:8  Fear no one, for I am with you and will keep you safe.

Jer. 1:10  I give you authority over nations, to uproot and destroy and to build and

                        plant.

Jer.1:11-16  The disaster of the Babylonian conquest prophesied.

Jer. 1:17-19  Tell the Kings, priests and people everything that I bid you. Though they

will persecute you, they will not prevail.

Jer. 2:1-Israel, remember the days of your youth, you were holy to the Lord. What

fault, then did your forefathers find in Me? That they went so far astray.

Jer. 2:7-I brought you into a fertile land, but you defiled it. The priests no longer asked of the Lord, the lawyers had no knowledge of Me.

Jer. 2:10-13  Be horrified, you heavens – My people have committed two sins; they have

rejected Me and made for themselves cracked vessels that are useless.

Jer. 2:14-18  Is Israel a slave?  Why, then are they taken as a spoil of war? The Land

                     laid waste and abandoned.

Jer. 2:19  It is your own apostasy that condemns you. See how evil it is to reject the

               Lord your God.

Reference;  Revised English Bible.  Most verses abridged

My comments;

Jeremiah 1:1-8 Jeremiah was chosen by God before his birth. He was given protection throughout his life.

Jer. 1:9-10 He is given instructions to oversee the destruction of nations, also to build and plant. This last task is not recorded in Scripture, however ancient Irish records tell how he went to Ireland with the Kings daughters, thereby rejoining the lines of Pharez and Zarah. Genesis 38:27-30

Jer. 1:11-19 Jeremiah’s prophecies of doom and the conquest of Judah, earned him lasting fame as anyone who predicts disaster, is known as a ‘Jeremiah’.

Jer. 2:1-6 Why couldn’t Israel keep the Law?

Jer. 2:7-8 They defiled My Land with their apostate ways. The Rabbi’s do not enquire the right way of the Lord and My Law is forgotten.

Jer. 2:10-19 Judah judged and sent into exile in 585BC.

THE JUDGEMENT OF THE HOUSE OF JUDAH

How Y’hovah will act in the country of Israel is set out by several prophets, the clearest is Ezekiel 20:46-47 ...I am about to kindle a fire in the Negev....it will scorch everyone in the land.

This shocking and earth shattering Day of the Lord’s vengeance and wrath, constitutes God’s judgement on all His enemies.

Isaiah 63:1-6 Who is this, coming from Edom?......I shattered peoples in My anger.

The current inhabitants of Eretz Ysrael (Greater Israel) Jews, Palestinians, Jordanians, Arabs, Lebanese, Syrians, etc. are all destined for judgement in this great Day of the Lord’s vengeance.

Obadiah 12-16 The Day of the Lord is at hand for all the nations....you too will drink the

cup of wrath that My people, Judah, must drink on My Holy mountain.

Ezekiel 21:4 I intend to do away with both righteous and wicked alike. My sword is drawn against everyone from the Negev northward.

Amos 2:4-5 For crime after crime of Judah, a harvest of reckoning will come.

Ezekiel 21:10-14 My sword is sharpened to kill, even the sceptre of My Royal Son. Testing will surely come and what if the sceptre of Judah, which the sword despises, does not continue? Swing the sword three times, the great sword of slaughter. [1st time – 585BC, 2nd time 69/70AD, 3rd time- still to come]

Isaiah 9:18-19 Wicked men have been set ablaze. The Land is scorched and the people are food for the fire.

Jeremiah 13:19 The towns in the Negev are besieged, no one can relieve them. Judah has been swept clean away.

Jeremiah 21:11-14 To the Royal House of Judah....I shall punish you as you deserve. I shall set fire to your scrubland, it will consume everything around about.

Zephaniah 1:4-6 Judah will be judged and those who have neither sought the Lord, nor enquired of Him, will be wiped out.

Jeremiah 8:5-12 Judah has no remorse or repentance, they say; All is well- no nothing is well. They will all fall on the Day of reckoning. You will be as dung spread on the ground. This wicked race would rather die than live.

Zechariah 13:8-9 It will happen throughout the Land, that 2/3 of the people will die. The 1/3 left will pass through the refining fire. They will call on Me and I will answer them....

Isaiah 4:3-4 The remnant of Judah will be called holy when the Lord cleanses Zion by a Spirit of judgement burning like fire.

Luke 19:27 As for those enemies of Mine, who did not want Me for their King, bring them here and slaughter them

Matthew 27:25 His blood be upon us and our children.

Matthew 21:41-43 The King will bring those criminals to justice and destroy them. Therefore the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will bear fruit.

      Judgement Of Judah

Over the twenty centuries since the time of Jesus Christ’s first coming to earth, the Jewish people have suffered terrible persecutions, pogroms and discrimination.  This fulfils several prophecies – that the Jews will be a curse and a derision in the world.

Jeremiah 17:1-4 The sins of Judah is recorded on their hearts, the fire of My anger will burn forever.

Ezekiel 21:2-7 Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem and prophesy against the Land of Israel. I shall draw My sword to cut off everyone from South to North.

I will make away with both the righteous and wicked, My sword will be drawn against everyone from the Negev northward. All courage will fail – it will surely take place.

Ezekiel 21:10-14 A sword is sharpened for the slaughter, polished to flash like lightning.

Should we rejoice in the sceptre of Judah? No, the sword condemns the Rod of My Son.  Cry and wail for it falls on My people – all your rulers will be killed.

Testing will surely come – what if the sceptre of Judah, which the sword despises, does not continue?  Swing the sword three times, the great sword of slaughter.

Verse 14 is highly significant, as it may foretell three judgements of the Jewish people.

1/ The Babylonian conquest in 585BC.

2/ The revolt against the Romans, Maccabees to AD 70, when millions were killed.

3/  The final gathering and judgement of the Jewish people in the Land.

At the trial of Jesus, the Jews said in Matthew 27:25, His blood be on us and our children.   In the parable of the King and his servants, Luke 19:14 ..his subjects hated him and said “We don’t want this man to be our King

Luke 19:27 As for those enemies of Mine that did not want Me for a King, bring them here    ( into the Land ) and slaughter them in My presence.

Matthew 21:38-43    The parable of the vineyard - The wicked tenants said; This is the heir, come – let us kill him and get the inheritance. The King will bring those criminals to justice and destroy them. He will then rent the vineyard to righteous tenants. Therefore the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you ( Jews ) and given to a people who will bear fruit.

Ezekiel 16:35-62 The Lord is saying how He rescued and tended Judah, but her depraved conduct surpassed even that of her sisters, Samaria ( Israel ) and Sodom

Therefore, you prostitute, because of your brazen excesses, I shall assemble all those around you - whom you loved.  I shall bring you to trial for adultery and murder.

When I hand you over to them, they will strip you naked. They will punish you with stones and swords, burn down your houses and execute judgement in the sight of many women.  You surpassed the sins of your sisters, Samaria and Sodom.

Eventual restoration in your shame and humiliation.

Jeremiah 8:3  The Lord says to the leaders of Judah; You will be as dung spread over the ground. This wicked race would rather die than live.

Jeremiah 18:1-10   The Potter And The Clay.

V6 House of Israel, I will remould you as a potter would a spoilt pot.

Israel, the Northern 10 tribes, are to be ‘remoulded’. Ezekiel 36:25-28

Jeremiah 19:3  Proclaim to the leaders and citizens of Judah.

V11  I shall smash this people as an earthen vessel is smashed beyond repair.     There will be no room left to bury them.

Judah is judged and punished, in this next prophesied event. Isaiah 22:1-14

Psalm 69:35  for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah.

This has happened now, with the Jews doing amazing construction and agricultural achievements since 1948.

But, then...

Psalm 69:36  The children of those who serve Him will inherit the Land and those who love His name will live there.

In the land of Israel today, 42% of the Jewish population are secular ( atheist ) 25% believe in God, but do not actively worship Him and 12% practice Judaism, 8% are the extreme ultra orthodox Haredi Jews.  In all the amazing things that have happened to the Jews  since 1948 – their resettlement, restored language and wars won, they still do not acknowledge God’s hand in their affairs.

           FIRE IN THE DESERT

There are many prophecies regarding the return of the House of Israel to the Land.  (the House of Judah has already returned) Fulfilment awaits two cleansings:-

o       Firstly the Land is to be cleansed out of “the evil neighbours” along with the apostate inhabitants of Israel.  Jeremiah 12:14-17

o       Secondly, All of Israel [all 12 tribes] must be judged and passed under the rod.

           Ezekiel 20:34-38.

The prophecies that seem to fit the clearing of the Land follow:

Ezekiel 20:46 ... utter prophesy toward the scrubland of the Negev. (some translations say “the    southland” but my Revised English Bible says Negev.)

Verse 47  I am about to kindle a fire in you; anything flammable will be burned.

It’s fiery flame will not be put out- everyone in the North will be scorched by it.

[This could be a coronal mass ejection – sunstrike. It does not fit a nuclear attack, with total destruction in localised areas.]

Verse 48 Everyone will see that I, the Lord have set it ablaze, not to be put out.

Ezekiel 21:4 I intend to do away with both righteous and wicked alike.

My sword is drawn against everyone from the Negev northward.

v10 My sword is sharpened to kill, even the sceptre of My Royal Son.

(The tribe of Judah holds the sceptre - the Royal line.)

v13  “Testing will surely come.   And what if even the sceptre, which the Sword despises, does not continue?” declares the Sovereign Lord.

Isaiah 9:18-20  Wicked men have been set ablaze. The Land is scorched and the people are food for the fire.      Manasseh and Ephraim are against Judah.

Jeremiah 8:5-6 Judah is incurable in their waywardness. No remorse or repentance.

Jeremiah 8:8-12  They say- we are wise, but their Rabbis and scribes falsify the Law.   Therefore, I will give their land to new owners. For all, high and low are out for ill gotten gain; the Rabbis and prophets are frauds.  They say - “All is well”– no; nothing is well. They will all fall on the day of reckoning.

Isaiah 48 v 6.... I show you new things, hidden things you did not know before.

    THE ROTTEN LOINCLOTH

Jeremiah chapter 13:1-10 - Jeremiah is instructed to buy a loincloth. He is then told to hide it near a river. After a long time, he retrieved it, but it was ruined.

Jer. 13:9-10 Thus, I shall ruin the enormous pride of Judah, these people with stubborn hearts, who worship other gods – they will become like that cloth, no good for anything.  Hosea 8:14,  Jeremiah 8:5-12

Jer. 13:11......I bound all Israel and all Judah to Me, so that they should become a source of renown and praise to Me, but they did not listen.  Isaiah 31:6-7

Jer. 13:12-14 ....I shall make all who live in Jerusalem drunk..... I shall show no compassion nor refrain from destroying them.  Ezekiel 21:4

Jer. 13:15-16 Pay heed, be not too proud to listen, for it is the Lord who speaks.

Give glory to God, before the light that you look for turns to darkness.

Jer. 13:17 If in the depths you will not listen, then weep bitterly for the Lord’s people are carried off into captivity. [Judah conquered by Babylon and again in AD70]   Ezekiel 21:14

Jer. 13:18 Say to the King and the Queen mother; take a humble seat, for your crowns have fallen.  Ezekiel 21:25-27

Jer. 13:19 The towns in the Negev are besieged, no one can relieve them. Judah has been swept clean away. [this parallels Ezekiel 20:46-47 and Isaiah 9:18-19]

Jer. 13:20 Look up and see! Those people who are coming from the North. [This is His people, righteous Israel, returning to the Land]  Isaiah 41:8-10

Jer. 13:20 Where is the flock that you were so proud of? [Israel scattered among the nations]

Jer. 13:21-22 What will you say when your leaders are missing? When you wonder why this has happened? It is because of your many sins.  Isaiah 3:1-3

Jer. 13:23 Can a Nubian change his skin? No more can you, [Judah] do good, so accustomed are you to doing evil.  Isaiah 22:14

Jer. 13:24 I will scatter you like chaff, before the desert wind.  Jeremiah 33:10

Jer. 13:25 This is your lot – I have decreed this for you, because you have forgotten Me and trusted in false gods.

Jer. 13:26 I will bare your shame for all to see.   Isaiah 3:16-26

Jer. 13:27 For your adulteries and shameful deeds – woe to you Jerusalem. How much longer will you be unclean?   Jeremiah 8:5-12

My comments:   This is a dual prophecy about the judgement of Judah in ancient times and again, soon to happen. Then Y’hovah’s righteous people enter the Land from the North. They will live there, in peace and security, to prepare for the Return of Jesus.

        DESTRUCTION IS DECREED

Isaiah 3:1-3 The Lord is about to strip Judah of every prop and support. All of their leaders, generals, counsellors and prophesiers.

Isaiah 3:4-7 I shall appoint inexperienced people to positions of authority. Oppression and arrogance will stalk the Land.

Isaiah 3:8-9 Judah is brought low, for in word and deed, they defy the Lord. The look on their faces testifies against them. Like Sodom, they parade their sins. Woe betide them, they have earned the disaster that will strike them.

Isaiah 3:10-11 Happy are the righteous. All goes well with them. Woe to the wicked, disaster is upon them.

Isaiah 3:12 My people, those who guide you are leading you astray.

Isaiah 3:13-15 The Lord stands up to judge His people. He opens the indictment against the elders and leaders; it is you who have ruined My vineyard. You have crushed My people and oppressed the poor.

Isaiah 3:16-24 You women of Zion; I will take away your finery, instead of coifed hair, you will be bald.

Isaiah 3:25-26 Your men will fall by the sword, in battle. Judah’s defences are stripped bare, all support removed.

Isaiah 4:1 On that Day, seven women will ask one man for help and support.

Isaiah 4:2 On that Day, the plants that the Lord has grown will become glorious in their beauty and the Land will be fruitful, the pride of the survivors in the Land.

[in other translations “plant’ is rendered ‘Branch’ and assumed to refer to Jesus, but I consider that the “plants’’, nurtured by the Lord is the regenerated Land.]

Isaiah 4:3 Those who remain in Jerusalem, whose survival was decreed, will be called holy.

Isaiah 4:4-6When the Lord washes away the filth of Jerusalem by a spirit of judgement burning like fire, He will create a cloud by day and a flame by night over Mt Zion, to be a covering for shade and shelter.

Isaiah 10:17 The Light of Israel will become a fire, their Holy One, a flame, that in a single day will burn up and consume His enemies.

Isaiah 10:18-19 The forests and pastures will be destroyed, only a few trees will remain.

Isaiah 10:20 On that Day, the remnant of Israel, the survivors of Jacob [all 12 tribes] will set their allegiance solely on the Lord.

Isaiah 10:21 A remnant will return, a remnant of Jacob, will return to God, their strength

Isaiah 10:22-23 Israel, though you are as the sands of the sea – only a remnant will return. The Lord will carry out the destruction decreed upon the whole Land.

Reference, REB, NIV, KJV, some verses abridged

My comments: Judah brought low, only a holy remnant saved. Hosea 12:2  Then righteous Israel will return. I am convinced that this Bible passage tells of events soon to happen, the coming Day of  judgement in the Mid East and His people- a remnant of Jacob [all twelve tribes] returning to the Promised Land, before the Return of Jesus.

     Bring It On, Lord

Jeremiah 12:1-3 I plead my case before You, even though I know that You are right.   Why do the wicked prosper? They grow and bear fruit, Your precepts are ever on their lips, yet far from their hearts.  You know me, Lord, You see me, test my devotion to You and judge those who are unfaithful, I ask.

Jer. 12:4-6 How long must the wicked desecrate Your Land? They say; “God does not see what we do”. Your righteous people cannot compete with those who despise them. Even so called friends turn against us, they are untrustworthy.

Jer. 12:7-9 I have abandoned Israel and given My beloved people into the power of their enemies. They broke our covenant, so I turned My face from them.

Jer. 12:10-13 The leaders of Israel have made My pleasant Land a desolation, to My sorrow. Evil peoples have taken over the Land from end to end, there is no peace for anyone. Whatever these people do, their harvest is a disappointment because of the Lord’s anger.

Jer.12:14-17 These are the Words of the Lord about all those evil neighbours who have encroached onto the land which I allotted to My people, Israel, as their holding: I shall uproot them. Also, I shall uproot Judah from among them, but after I have uprooted them, I shall have pity on them and bring them back to the Land. IF they will learn the ways of My people, THEN Judah can establish families among My people [Those who trust in Y’hovah and are redeemed by Jesus] But any nation that will not listen, I will destroy.         Reference; REB. Some verses abridged.

My comments and matching verses:

v 1-3 Lord, bring on Your judgement. Many people profess to follow You, but true Christianity is far from their hearts. Isaiah 1:18-20, Romans 10:9-10, Isaiah 48:1-2

v 7-9 Israel and Judah taken out of the Land and dispersed. Jeremiah 7:15, Jeremiah 2:7, Ezekiel 36:16-19

v 10-13 The atheistic, apostate and false religion followers, who mostly inhabit the Land at present, are an anathema to God. There will be no peace or fruitfulness like this.  Psalm 74:20, Ezekiel 36:3-7

v 14-17 All the evil neighbours will be removed from Greater Israel. Judah, too will be uprooted. The condition for the return of any Jews is that they acknowledge the Messiah Jesus. Isaiah 26:8-9, Jeremiah 13:11, 1 John 2:22-23, Zephaniah 1.

Any people group that refuses to listen will be destroyed. Isaiah 1:27-28, Isaiah 66:16,       Hebrews 10:26-27

The Land of Israel has been allotted to Y’hovah’s people – righteous Israel. They will gather and settle there after the Land is cleared as described in verse 14.

Swing the Sword Three Times

Ezekiel 21:1-7 This is the Word of the Lord: Face toward Jerusalem and prophesy against the Land of Israel. Say to that Land: I am against you, I shall draw My sword and make away with both righteous and wicked among you I intend to destroy both good and evil people, from the Negev [Southern Israel] Northward, all will know that it is I, Y’hovah who has acted. All courage will fail on that Day, it is coming, it will surely take place.

This is the Day of the Lord’s vengeance and wrath. There has not been any previous event, as   described, in Israel. Ezekiel 20:47-48, Isaiah 33:14, Jeremiah 21:14.

‘The righteous and wicked alike will be killed’. It will be the next prophesied event, which will clear the entire Middle east, thus allowing His people, righteous Israel, to gather in and resettle the Land of Greater Israel. Psalm 83, Revelation 6:12-17, Isaiah 2:12-22, Joel 2:1-11.

Ezekiel 21:8-13 Prophesy: A sword is sharpened and polished, ready to kill. Should we respect the sceptre of Judah? No, the sword despises it. The sword of destruction is ready for the hand of the slaughterer. Cry aloud and lament, for testing will surely come upon My people and on all Israel’s leaders who are given over to be slain with My people. Mourn and wail, for what if the sceptre of Judah does not continue?

The people currently occupying all of the Holy Land will mostly be killed or displaced. Lament, for My people [Judah] too, will be slain. Jeremiah 12:14, Ezekiel 16:35-41.

Ezekiel 21:14-17 Prophesy: Strike your hands together, swing the sword three times. It is the instrument of slaughter, whirling around. Their courage will fail and many will stumble and fall. Lightning flashes left and right – blocking all escape routes, terrible will be the slaughter. Then, I too, will strike My hands together, My wrath will subside. I, Y’hovah have spoken.

Swing the sword three times” Refers to the judgement and dispersion of Judah.                1/ Babylon. 2/ Rome. 3/ still to come. Zech. 13:7-9, Jer. 19:11, Matthew 21:41, Luke 19:27

Is the 3rd ‘swing of the sword’, the Holocaust? No, because that was just the worst of many pogroms and slaughters of the Jews, since AD70. Jeremiah 9:12-22, Lamentations

Ezekiel 21:18-24 This is a description of how God led Babylon to attack and destroy Jerusalem. The House of Judah were taken into captivity in 585BC, because of their sins.  2 Kings 23:27

Ezekiel 21:25-27 And you, you impious and wicked ruler of Israel [King Zedekiah of Judah.    2 Kings 25:6] your fate has come upon you. Off with your crown, it will not be as it was, the lowly will be exalted and the exalted, brought low. I will overturn, overturn, overturn it, until He comes – who is the rightful ruler, I shall install Him.

[King Zedekiah, was blinded and his sons killed, then he was imprisoned in Babylon. That is the exalted, brought low. Then, the lowly raised – these are the kings daughters, taken to Ireland [Hibernia = Hebrews Land] by Jeremiah. Princess Tea Tephi married King Herremon of Ireland. Their royal line was ‘overturned‘ - Scotland, then ‘overturned’ - England, now the British [Brit = covenant, ish = people] royal line holds the sceptre, - next to hand it to King Jesus.  2 Samuel 7:16

Ezekiel 21:28-32 Prophesy to the Ammonites.......you will be fuel for the fire, remembered no more.  [Modern Jordan, “still living in the place of their origin “.   Their beliefs are a lie and for their insults against Israel, God will judge them. Deuteronomy 32:41-43, Jeremiah 12:14, Amos 1:13-15   Reference: REB, NIV. Hello Bruce:

First of all, congratulations on the completion of such a monumental task! By word count, this is one of the most voluminous books that I have seen on Authonomy. While that bears witness to your scholarship, it can also work against you in the hard copy print world, though not so much as an eBook world. If you desire to publish traditionally as a printed book, you will probably need to cut down the length considerably because higher word count=more pages to print=higher, more risky investment.

As you are doubtless aware, you have a tremendous amount of "competition" in this genre. In its current form the pitch simply gives a summary of the end time events that the Bible foretells. Given that there are so many books which have been published or being submitted for publication, you may want your pitch to communicate what sets your book apart.

In many of the chapters, the bulk of the text consists of pure biblical text and many of the quoted verses are quite lengthy. This may been perceived by editors as "padding" the word count. You may want to consider shortening your references, maybe even quoting the scripture address, and focusing more on developing the arguments and your commentary so that the book has more of your voice.

Blessings to you and may God use your ministry to draw many people into reconciliation and relationship with Him.

A very thoughtful and thought-provoking book. It is written in a very clear and easy to understand style. I have read several chapters and I hope to read more when I have time. I really like it! Challenging and yet encouraging at the same time it forces the reader to consider Scripture and then to act accordingly. 'You can't con God' the author says - yes indeed how true and yet how often we think we can! And 'without values, there are no standards, no real reference point.' which of course is the reason for many of the problems in society today.

Thank you for this great book - highly starred and I intend to find space on my shelf as soon as I can.

God bless you
Margaret

Bruce, I stumbled across your book and as I am always open to different view points began reading. I really enjoyed it and was interested enough to read on I love the idea that it's like an idiots guide, this makes it accessible to anyone you don't have to be a theologian, all the best with this, Karen, Faking it in France.

Hi Bruce,
I'm sorry it took me so long to get to reading your book. Your writing is clear and your reasoning is easy to understand. Frankly, I admire anyone who tackles end times themes, as there are so many factors open to speculation, and such a variety of beliefs throughout the Christian denominations. Then, there are so many books on the subject, we could ask why another one is needed.
I can't say that I agree with everything you say, but then, I am neither a scholar nor a theologian. It seems to me that your book would be most read by members of your own denomination, and if you also have a teaching gift then it would obviously be sold at teaching seminars. You have put a lot of work into this and I applaud your efforts and hope you achieve your goal, to give Christians a better understanding of these crucial topics.
