God Made Me Yummy
“Mommy, was I nowhere before I was born?” Sarah asked as she and Mommy mixed up their favorite batch of chocolate chip cookies.
“Well, why do you ask, honey?” Mommy said, as she began to pour in the sugar.
“Because I think I was probably nothing, right Mommy?” exclaimed Sarah.
“No, Sarah, you weren’t nothing, and you weren’t nowhere. You were inside God’s heart before you were born.”
“In his heart?” questioned Sarah.
“Yes, you were in his heart. You see, God spent a lot of time thinking about how to make you. He knew you had to be very special, and he really needed to think about all the things he wanted to give you to make you special.” said Mommy.
“Really?” asked Sarah.
“Yep. God had to measure all the ingredients he needed to make you very carefully. He had to mix them up just right.” Mommy explained as she carefully measured the butter and baking soda in the bowl.
“Like cookies, Mommy?” Sarah questioned as she peered down into the big mixing bowl.
“Well, yes, I guess it’s kind of like cookies. If you put too much flour in cookies,” Mommy said as she measured a big cup of flour, “they won’t taste good. If you put too much sugar in, they will be too sweet. That’s just like you. When God was measuring all the ingredients to make you he had to have just the right amounts of everything.” explained Mommy.
“Do I have chocolate chips in me, Mommy?” Sarah giggled as Mommy poured the whole bag of chocolate chips into the mixture.
“No,” Mommy laughed. “Not chocolate chips. God doesn’t use the same ingredients to make people that we use to make cookies, honey, they are much better ingredients.”
“Like what?” said Sarah.
“Well, God knew that to be you, he would have to add a lot of giggles.” Mommy teased as she tickled Sarah’s tummy.
Sarah laughed.
“He knew that you would need to be tough, so you wouldn’t cry too much when you scrape your knees.” continued Mommy as she showed her big muscles, “so he poured in a bunch of toughness!”
“He measured in a whole bunch of nice, and a little bit of silly, then he added the most important ingredient, he mixed in a whole bunch of his love, this is the most important part, Sarah.” Mommy explained. ”Just like the chocolate chips are the most important part of our cookies!”
“God really knows how to make each one of us a special recipe, and it’s kind of funny, we are all so different.” Mommy said as she pulled Sarah into her lap.
“When God saw that he had made his Sarah recipe just right, he gave you to me, and I think he got you just right too!” said Mommy as she pulled Sarah close for a big hug.
Just then the timer for the cookies rang, and Mommy pulled them from the oven.
“God must be a really good cook Mommy!” Sarah proclaimed.
“Yes he is, Sarah. Every recipe I’ve seen has turned out just the way he planned,” Mommy declared, as she tried to fan the rising smoke from her face. “Not like our cookies!”
Mommy and Sarah looked at the burned cookies they had pulled out of the oven.
Sarah exclaimed “Good thing we don’t make people, Mommy!”
Mommy agreed.
