The Moonflower Cure

jollyoldsaint

Whales are exploding. It's up to one sperm whale--Hal--and a guy named Bob, to save them...and the rest of the world...if only they knew that.

The seed of the Nottin Island Moonflower turns out to be more than one man's poison.

When an innocent sperm whale becomes the propagative target of the rare and devious flower, a tour boat captain witnesses a telling side-effect: the whale's new-found flame-throwing ability. Egged on by a net-savvy surfer-in-need-of-a-home and with the incentive of spending more time with the surfer's painter-friend and fellow witness, Star, Captain Bob sets out to discover The Why and The How of Flame-throwing whales.

Just the parts with the whales and the flower read like that. The rest is normal prose.

Thanks for taking a look. I'm really enjoying My Life Without Me...looks like you've done that thing we all hope to hit on: original, yet relatable...striking that chord of familiarity, but with a new pov. Congrats.

Nick

i've never seen anything like this before - is it a script? some sort of poetry? a combination? anyway, i like this style... starting off with a joke about gas, funny

can't say i've read anything about whales before - so damn kudos on originality!

cheers,

Hi Richard,

What a kind and encouraging comment. I'm very nearly speechless. Thank you.

Hi Jolly; I have just read to the end of chapter three.

I was drawn to this by your intriguing book title and short pitch.

This is a very unusual combination. I thought the short Foreword quite beautiful with the flower falling of the cliff then straight into the witty banter. This is quite quirky but all the more entertaining for it as it is consistently quirky, (not easy to do.)

I wasn't sure what you were building to with the whale watching trip. When you start going into the detail of the pygmy whales and the sperm whales protecting their baby, your serious side had me quite spellbound. Then, wallop, the flash from the whales backside and we're off again with the humorous undertones. I liked it. It kept me on my toes.

The teasing of Star works well and I thought it a great hook at the end of the shopping trip chapter. This left me wondering whether Star had seen the event, as Bob believed, or if she was just saying it as she fancied him.

I really liked this as it's just that bit eccentric. Just crazy enough to work. I could understand people not getting into this, but in actual fact it is an awful lot deeper than at first appears and I applaud you for it.

A really good, innovative read and highly starred for it.

Your pitch caught my interest, 'nuf said.

Thanks Jim. I 'd rather write a novel than a pitch any day. And thanks for shelving. I'll check out your book ASAP.

Thanks for checking it out. I'm editing as I go (something which is threatening to suck the fun right out of it :)), so it's slow-going. But I'll definitely let you know when I post more chapters.

Hmmm, interesting! I just read all you have up of this and I enjoyed it a great deal. I'm curious where it's headed, so let me know if you post up more of it. This is one of the more unusual things I've read lately. You should hit up the comedy people and try to get more reads going on here.
