A Sting in the Tail

Andy Macready

A thriller set against the back drop of terrorism in the Oil and Gas fields of Algeria and a looming environmental disaster.

Paul Banner, an ex Legionnaire working for an elite unit of MI6, is sent on his most dangerous mission yet, to work undercover for an oil company based in the oil town of Hassi Medila in central Algeria.

Al Qaeda in North Africa has had their ranks swelled by returning Islamic fighters from wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. With newly found skills and a hunger for martyrdom in their own homeland they set out to shoot down a foreign commercial airliner transporting oil workers into the country.

Shortly after arriving in Algeria, Banner is joined by a young inexperienced but highly intelligent computer security specialist. The story follows the agents as they track the terrorist cell transporting the missiles across lawless Mauritania, into Mali and up into Southern Algeria.

Blair Dyer, CEO of BOGEL Oil & Gas Corporation is a world leader in green technology that stores millions of tonnes of CO2 underground. Gas is extracted from the underneath the scorched Saharan desert and separated from the CO2 and pumped back into the earth where it is stored in underground natural reservoirs, substantially reducing carbon emissions, but the technology is flawed and causing villages to fall ill.

This is wonderfully descriptive writing. Creative use of analogies and imagery rather than just spelling it all out for the reader. My mind's eye is seeing exactly what you are writing. A joy to experience.
Just be careful of repeating the same word in a paragraph. Look at the first two paragraphs for example. The word 'once' should be changed to something else in both cases. It takes away from the rest of your writing which is truly good work. A publishable standard.
Well done.

G’day, dear friend.

On 27/APR/12, I opened a new Forum top: DOWN-UNDER WRITERS OF DISTINCTION.

I said in the very first posting:

“I've so far found one other Australian writer here in Anthonomy (and living in Brisbane like me too).
No doubt there a lot more of them; and if they would like to say: "G'day! Howyergoin.." They will be most welcome here.

I am pleased to say that this topic was very well received from Day 1. Since then, with the help of some keen members, we have been able to produce a list (Including Aussies and Kiwis) of 25 DOWN UNDER writers. And to date we have clocked 6,366 views and 350 replies.

Now that’s an excellent start. But just getting to know one-another is but the beginning.

What I’m really aiming for, is for all us DOWN-UNDER members to do what we can to help each other – knowing, that from beginners to existing successful authors, we all need a bit of support, a bit help, a bit of encouragement, now-and-again.

May I ask you please to do something for me?

First, I’d like you to confirm that you are happy (or not – shudder...)to be listed in DOWN-UNDER MEMBERS OF DISTINCTION.

Second, I’d like you to tell us if you think we are moving in the right direction?

Third: Should you happen to have a space on your book shelf, to take at look at our DOWN-UNDER writers first, before going elsewhere.

Thank you, mate!

I shall be most pleased to see your reply.

Cheers!

I find the first few paragraphs of the book very vivid and engaging. It is definitely the kind of thriller I enjoy reading. I think you would enjoy my book 'The Law of the Barrator', which reads in a similar vein. I shall keep reading Banner and Iook forward to any comments on my book you may have.

Aw man, only 6 chapters? I'm hooked.
I love the Tom Clancy meets David Baldacci set in a James Bond storyline. The changes in Point of View keep the book interesting and Ned - the assassin with a conscience? I like that character trait. I'm not normally sympathetic towards assassins but Ned will be my exception.
Well written and very easy to read.
Only 1 little formatting error I found, Chapter three: 'victims arm' should be 'victim's arm'.
Will put on watchlist to see if you add more chapters.
