Who is killing little old ladies in the hotel? Enigmatic grandma Mrs Harris investigates - but watch out nana, not everyone is who they seem.
The police in the seaside hamlet of Upper Markham are stretched to the limit. First the brutal murder of a London solicitor in the railway car park, and then the grissly death of Mirabelle Davenport at The Sea Bridge Hotel.
By coincidence, Mrs Harris arrives at the hotel, and becomes acquainted with sister's Elizabeth and Katherine Wilson, and learns about a spate of practical jokes, and the alleged perpetrator, Major Charles Eaton.
Over the following days, and using a few 'tricks' of her own, Ada questions the main players to uncover the motive behind Mirabelle's death. She is just beginning to get an idea of the big picture when Katherine Wilson is found dead.
To complicate matters further, not only does a potential witness disappear, but Mrs Harris is faced with a problem of her own. Even though she and Florence Brown, have been friends for over 60 years, for the majority of that time, Mrs Harris has been keeping a secret, which as the investigation progresses, slowly begins to unravel.
At the conclusion, Ada is not happy, for there are several unaccountable loose ends. Then a letter ‘from the grave’ arrives.
