Amazon how to.

I am thinking about self-pubbing a book - probably using create space? (good idea?) but am a total novice on how it works once it is on Amazon. Anyone fancy giving me a sort of 'Amazon for dummies' guide (there's a book there!) as to what happens/prices of books/how to raise your profile/anything you've learnt the hard way etc.

I'm not lazy - just get in a fog when trying to sort this stuff out on my own. Grateful for any comments, pointers, etc.

He also put out a publishing checklist video.

Likewise - and it's foggy enough in here without delving into the realms of e-publishing. Thanks for the links, Rob.

Check out absolute write water cooler and Kindleboards Writer's Cafe for experts. Absolute Write can be a bit scary - the posters are not very friendly so I'd lurk and not get involved in any discussions and for the love of God don't ever say 'Traditional Publishing' instead of Trade Publishing or they will scratch your eyes out.

I'm new to it all too. I don't get a lot of things like taxes and royalties. Anything with numbers and my brain switches off.

I wrote a post on my blog about creating a trailer which might be useful for you http://sarahdaltonbooks.com/

In terms of marketing I think it would be good for you to create an ebook out of your WIP and send it to book bloggers for reviews. Create a Goodreads page ahead of it's release and plug it in the forums there and send them the Advance Review Copy so they can review your book. Most reviewers will also post their review on Amazon so it's really important.

Kindle is easy, there are guides for kids to publish on youtube and I used those (I have no shame)

Unless you sell non-fiction it is difficult to make a profit on paperbacks. My advice would be to put your book on Kindle using the select option to get some publicity by setting it free for a couple of days.

If you get sales to pay for the paperback use createspace because its relatively easy and you can get your paperback into US and UK if you pay $30 for the international option.

Message me if you get stuck. I've seen the film, bought the t shirt and hurled the laptop through the window several times. But I got there in the end.
