DOWNUNDER WRITERS OF DISTINCTION

I'll be honest right up front mate: I was born in the UK in 1934 and came to Australian in 1965, when Australia had joined a war first then found they didn't have enough men to fight it... They were desperately recruiting POMs - I'm not kidding. They enlisted me in the Royal Australian Air Force, in London, on a Wednesday. Then they, put me and mum, and the bubs in a B&B for the night, and flew us out the next day! They had to be desperate to do that. to make everything tickety-boo, the made us - and all the rest of them - not Australians, but Permanent Australian Residents - to come and go as we please (and hoping we would stay.... and about 50% did just that).

After 20 years (1985), I resigned my commission, and they kindly paid for a writing course to help me resettle back into civvy street, and now I've lived here longer than I ever lived in the UK...

I've so far found one other Australian writer here in Anthonomy (and living in Brisbane like me too). No doubt there a lot more of them; and if they would like to say: "G'day! Howyergoin.." They will be most welcome here.

Hi Ken, sounds like you've led a pretty interesting life. I think I'm going to have a grand time looking at 'Quote Me" when things settle down. It's always interesting to see what life truly taught someone, and compare it to your own experiences. It's like the first time you understand why your grandparents or parents used to say a certain expressions that they never explained the 'why' behind. A fair middle ground Smile

Blue Diamonds (got to the ED)

Not a Man (got to the ED)

Ramadan Sky (deserves to get to the ED)

These are all by Aussie writers and I'm sure there are more around.

Joanne Ellis, with 'Spoilt' I think got to the desk and is now selling and very successfully.
Ariom Dahl, who's had a few books, at least one of which should definitely be published.
Others who I can't remember.

G'day mate. I'm a New Zealand born Aussie that only became an Aussie citizen after living here 30 years on Australia Day 2011. So good to have you here and to know yet another Aussie.

AUSSIE ~ AUSSIE ~ AUSSIE - OI ~ OI ~ OI !!!!

AUSTRALIA DAY

Another Australian Day has rolled around
“Hey, a day off” – yep, a cheerful sound
Gathering together with all me mates
An esky, sunscreen, hat & belly weight

In 1788 they landed at Botany Bay
Captain Arthur Phillip let none astray
With the convicts in tow in a foreign land
Their task was to settle at England’s command

The discovery of Gold came about in 1851
World economic depression had certainly began
From Europe, North America & China they came
Collecting wealth – “Eureka” they exclaimed!!!

1901 brought along the Federation blast
One could proclaim to be an Aussie, at last!
Canberra, 1827 the first Parliament conferred
The Aussie states urbanised I heard

Into the flaming Aussie sun let’s unite
Without a chip on a shoulder or a beer belly fight
To celebrate this free Great Southland
With its blazing beaches and red hot sand

So don’t forget to remember our heritage
Collect some good tucker out of ya fridge
Tip ya cap and smile g’day to a mate
Crank up the Barbie, crikey, don’t be late!!!
