Hi everyone,

I came across this website http://www.booktrade.info/ yesterday where you can sign up for their daily newsletter about the book market. It’s pretty interesting, but can be a little depressing. The bulletin I received yesterday said that of 50,000+ new books that were published last year, some sold as few as 18 copies. Bah! Oh, and in today’s news it says that book sales are plummeting on UK high streets.

Sobering.
Sad

18 copies? At that rate we are better off sticking with authonomy - at least we get more than 18 readers.

I know what you mean. I think it's great that so many new books are being published, but I can't see why they aren't being promoted properly. Maybe publishers hope that they will become word of mouth hits, but that's clearly not the case.

Well, if they'd stop trying to sell me Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Childhood and Ant&Dec's Favourite Jungle Recipes, maybe I might start buying their wares again. close quotes

Yes, you're quite right. Those are the only two books that are in commercial book shops. Nothing else on the shelves.

It is recession proof. But you have to be firm and not drop the prices. Tongue out close quotes

Maybe you could start dealing books, too?

I thought Anton Deck was a French chef with 3 Michelin stars for his restaurant.
