Yes, it does. I read someone griping in the forums about how making the Editor's Desk is "failure" if you don't get picked up by HC, so they did not intend to use it as a credit in their queries. According to that line of thinking, anything other than first place is a loss, rather than a win. I think that is crazy! It still means you beat out thousands of other people!! When I added the HC gold medal to my query letter I got serious responses for the first time. Things are going well since then. Went to two conferences this spring and met an acquisitions editor from Harlequin/Mira and a well known agent, both of whom loved the beginning of I Love CHocolate and asked for the full ms. Better still, the two are friends and work together often. Sending the first 100 pgs to the agent this week. I hope it will look like an easy sale to her, since the editor already likes it. Also, after I advised you to try small presses, I took my own advice and queried several for SECRETS. Got a bite from one and they made me an offer, which I am considering. Want to see what happens with the agent first, she may want Secrets too. But it sure is nice to have a backup plan, and I'm really hoping not to self-publish again just now.
