Hello Carey,

Hope you are well. Maybe you would like to try out my new satire, Doghouse Blues. Here is an endorsement:

I was attracted to Doghouse Blues from the pitch alone because it was so very different. There are so many budding writers out there who want to earn the same sort of money as J K Rowling by writing exactly the same kind of book and , to be frank, I am getting a bit tired of it.
This, on the other hand, struck me as being an original piece of work. The product of a lively mind and written by someone who is an excellent observer of the real world out there and who knows how to translate his observations into print. Just the right amount of dialogue, which carries the story along well.
I have not read the complete book (yet) but have dipped into it fairly freely to see if the momentum is maintained. It certainly is.
Philip John

Looking forward to reading your comments on the Doghouse Blues webpage.

All the best,

Clive

Dear Freedan, I see you are backing C.G. Harris’ THE REVEALING. The work is thematically similar to mine, THE EVOLUTION OF ETERNITY, and I felt you might want to take a look at it and hopefully back it. As someone commented, “I've never read a book like this before, but it's very fascinating!” Here is the link to the book: http://www.authonomy.com/books/41044/the-evolution-of-eternity/. Thanks and blessings always.

Dear Carey,
Mrs Maginnes is Dead is a comic murder mystery that has driven many authonomites to fits of hysterics. It features Byzantine gold, a Gypsy, a homicidal goat, five unstable sisters hell bent on getting their hands on said gold and getting rid of said goat with the help of said Gypsy, communist transvestites, a Shakespeare-quoting grave robber, a valorous detective hell bent on stopping this nonsense, true love, and a purple and pink plaid couch.
Won't you have a look? The Ark of Humanity has already got its medal, and I am sure that a change in decor would lighten up the room
I return all reads, although not particularly quickly, with careful, thought out, witty and sometimes even helpful comments.
Best,
Maeve

Well technically, I am willing to swap reads, so perhaps I am in the clear. Yet, make no mistake, this is me spamming you in hopes that you will consider commenting on, or backing my novel.

I thank you for your consideration.

I came across your profile while reading The White Light Dawn.

I wondered whether you’d be interested in taking a look at THE MAD FAUN – a time-travelling fantasy epic. I’ve had some great feedback already:

‘A riveting start. Rowan is a strong, dynamic central character. Effective world building. I'm there. Beautiful imagery. Vivid sense of place. Simmering tension. Smooth pacing.’

Thanks, Holly

Believe me I will check them out thouoghly, especially before making any investment. The company has one plus which is that they are a Christian publishing company, but still it is wise to take your advice. Remember they are offering three options, 1) Traditional contract 2) Co-Publish 3) Self Publish and I am waiting for more details on each. I greatly appreciate your heads up ...TY

Walt

Co-Publishing is simply sharing the risk with the publisher. While all may not offer this service, I find it to be a very interesting offer because it cuts the cost of getting printed in half, the author gets 50% of royalties, and if the book sells the 5000 copy minimum the company re-imburses the initial investment and will offer a traditional contract. Of course it could be that we are better to keep the co-publish contract since there is higher royalty, but it also requires more time and effort to promote on our part. I am strongly considering it, but will certainly follow your advice and check it out before doing so. The same company has left the traditional option on the table if I can show them enough endorsements and support for the book. But then I am looking at 7-10% royalty since they are taking all the risk.

Walt

Not sure if this will help anyone, but I have an offer to Co-publish and I am considering that as one option. Maybe self publishing is the best most of us will do, but I am still interested in going the traditional route. I have at least had some good discussions with a major agency, and been asked to send in a proposal for traditional publication. Seems like you almost need to have a best seller to get those folks interested, but they have said if an author can put together a solid proposal and get some written endorsements it really helps. Saying all of that to say this, the real work begins when we finish the book and it is time to get it on the market. I think each person must utilize whatever works best for them. Good Luck with your experiment!

Walt

Thank you so much for backing the Revealing. Can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. I would love to hear what you thought of it as well. Have a great day and happy reading!

I know what you mean about the cost of a line edit - you have to weigh that up against how much you'll make in sales. And that's a difficult one to predict..... Yes Word is a terror for that.....
Thinking of going down the self-pub route if the latest agent that RE is on full submission to turns it down.
I hope you do really well as it'll encourage the rest of us!
Kind regards, Alison

turnerpage wrote 476 days ago

I am looking at the DIY publishing route too but I was curious as to whether or not you had the manuscript professionally copy-edited before you uploaded it. If not, how easy is it to make changes to the text once uploaded? Your take on this gratefully received.
Kind regards,

I saw your pitch and was wondering if you might be interested in reviewing “The Revealing”. I would appreciate a critique and a star rating and as I am the one asking, I would be glad to go first. If you deem it worthy, I would be honored if it found a place on your shelf.
