Dear Anastacia: It pains me terribly to have to bother others, but I seem to be facing the battle of my life. I suspect I'm being continually attacked because the workbook I've written to help young adults has a Christian theme behind it.

Every time my book even gets in line for the desk, it gets attacked with one stars and a proliferation of abuse messages.

I'm at the rank number 9 right now (after being knocked down from approaching the desk in October). Until this point, I've not requested read swaps, but I promise to read your book if you would be willing to give a look at my workbook and, please, if you feel you can, support it through this month and next as I try, once again, to remain on the desk long enough for an editor to review it.

"The Bible I Thought I Knew"

While updating a couple chapters in my novel, I seem to have clicked on something I shouldn't have because I lost all my backers in the process. It's very concerning, as I was in the top 80s and had over 70 backers. I now fear Albert: A Gray Matter will slip into the recesses of nothingness, never to return again.

Can you find it in your heart to help me out? At least take a peak?

I’ve just posted my new book Stop the Insanity. It is a manifesto for those of us who are fed up with our dysfunctional Congress and would like to do something about it. I’ve put down my ideas on how we can cause a change along with descriptions of some of the things I believe need to be changed.

I would really like to hear what you think about my ideas. No problem if you disagree but please let me know why and what you would do instead.

Of course many Authonomy members are not American and/or don’t care about American politics. For you I have put in two bonus sections, written summaries of two very expensive seminars I attended to learn more about marketing and selling books, particularly for those who self publish. I think these two sections, chapters 11 and 12, will be of interest to all.

Welcome to Authonomy! You’ve probably already noticed that you’re receiving requests from authors who want you to read their book right away. It’s important to promote your work, and that’s one way to do it.

Another way is to visit the forums and participate in the conversations you see there. Many older and wiser members post in the forums, so it’s a great place to learn.

You could also find a critique group and join it. Then you’ll be part of a group that’s agreed to read one another’s works. Click on the “Forum” link and then choose the Book Genre Message Boards. Find your genre, and see if there’s a crit group.

You can also post a thread about your book on the “Shameless Plugs” board. Post a message to tell us about yourself.

Some acronyms you’ll run across here: SP is your short pitch. LP is your long pitch. MC is main character, MS is manuscript.

Tips: if you hover your icon over the little arrow by your rank, you’ll see yesterday’s rank. When you receive a comment, don’t hit “reply,” instead choose “send message” to thank the reviewer. When you use the “reply” here the reviewer doesn’t see it, and it artificially inflates your number of comments.
