Kath,
I saw you were a new author to the site and wanted to say WELCOME! Also I was wondering if you wanted to help each other out and back each others books (I am new also.) All you have to do is click Add to my bookshelf and leave it there for at least 24 hours, the longer the better =) If you back mine, I will back yours also, although it may be a day or two later (because I have promised others to leave there book on my shelf for 24 hours.)

A sinking ship, a floating chest, a boy alone, a bitter end... but was it really the end? Find out when you read: The End Pursuit of Juggelby Bumbletummie, by J. O'Maille.

PS: If you give me a look, I will give you a look, and I'll support what I can. But I'll tell you what I read in honesty (be it the synopsis, or part of, or the whole book).

My goal is to be generous in hopes that you do the same...

Blessings,

J. O'Maille
author of: The End Pursuit of Juggelby Bumbletummie

Hi and welcome to Authonomy.
This can be a great site and truly helpful to new authors. Good Luck.
However I have to advise you to be very careful. There are a few on the site who are not what they seem!
Do not believe all you are told. Remember many authors are FICTION writers and not only inside their books!
If you receive a comment on your book without it having been read ask why? Watch out for “cut and paste” comments. Easy to spot (strange punctuation).
If they tell you they have backed your book, always check their bookshelf. Backings for less than 24 hours do not count and will not help you. Putting a book on a Wait List, does not help at all. So called 6 star ratings can also be a con. They will probably be adjusted back to 3.
There are some out there trying to cheat new authors by offering reciprocal backings and then only backing momentarily. Have fun but be wary.
Regards
Vernon

P.S. Vernon’s Top Authonomy Tips
Read the Welcome email from Authonomy.
Have a look at FAQs.
Stay away from the forum – unless you like to moan and waste your time!
Do not back your own book – It does not help you.
Back books that you really like.

After one year on the site and over 700 reviews, I have accepted many of the suggestions (sometimes, I admit, through gritted teeth) and Apocalypse Then is now fully edited. I believe it is ready for the desk and ask, If you find the time, that you take a look at it. If you then believe that it is good enough, please consider placing it on your desk. All the best DD ;o)

Hi Kath

I’ve been on Authonomy about a month and in treading the fine line between promoting my work and being a pest I am hoping to find some genuine support for my story ‘Isabel’. It is about a boy who, whilst in a coma-induced dream, has a wild adventure on a strange island with a girl he believes to be real.
Please don’t feel obliged to read it if it’s not your thing but all honest feedback is much appreciated!
Kind regards, Karen Rosario

Welcome to Authonomy. Fairly old hand here, just waving hello, not soliciting anything from you. I'm sending you this message because you've put a book here, not merely signed on to read.

I've been teaching college English for 43 years and am getting ready to retire so I can write full time. If I don't know the answer to a writing question, I usually know where you can find it.

Any new online environment has a learning curve. This one takes a while to get used to, but once you've familiarized yourself with some of its features you can get valuable feedback on your writing and make some good friends. To clarify things, in case you're confused at the moment, I suggest checking the Tips and the FAQ's. Other useful advice may be found in the On Writing and Troubleshooting forums .

In a sense, we are competitors and teammates at the same time, like co-workers seeking promotions but wishing each other well. This competitive-cooperative relationship is a little paradoxical! You may find all sorts of reactions here, from gushing praise to really harsh criticism. The harsh criticism is sometimes more useful than the praise, so try to be a little thick skinned when your "baby" appears to be getting unfairly attacked.

Editing/revising books is the main task here. We consider each other's suggestions and try to make our own books as publishable as possible.

Like some other web sites, Authonomy can be both a lot of fun and DANGEROUSLY addictive!

Hello Kath,
Susie Q wishes to back *everyone*, but unless she leaves your book on her shelf for over 24 hours the backing is worthless; she wants you to back her book. That's your choice. And as she gives every book a six star rating that also is adjusted by the site to three. Just letting you know. The forum thread below is useful and informative.

Hello Kath,
Welcome to Authonomy. Will you have a look at one or both of my books and offer some constructive criticism? Lisa

Dear Kath,

I love your pitch about the henchmen & have gold ******-rated your book, "Lundarium" :) could you please ****** & back my memoirs book, in return? :) Thank you from the bottom of my heart. :) I have also put your book on my watchlist to read & to also at least 24 hour back when space opens on my bookshelf. :) There are some evil mean people on authonomy & one man doesn't even have a book on authonomy who is copy/pasting a bad message, "Hi and welcome to Authonomy" & saying that I don't at least 24 hour back books - authonomy at "Contact Us" at the bottom of this page will verify me. :) Click on my name to read my profile page & lupus/illness & integrity. :)

Love, Susie :)
p.s. every *******-ing & at least 24 hours backing moves our books closer to the editor's desk :) - click on author's name, scroll down, click on book cover or title :) - & away you go :)
None of this message is copy/pasted & is written my best from my heart. :)

I would really appreciate it if you could have a look at my comedic memoir - GEORGE ST. BERNARD SHAW and Other Tails From an African Farm.

It takes place in the 1980s when my family of city slickers and I moved to the country, only to be plunged headlong into the madness, muck and mire of pastoral bliss. Through our hilarious mistakes and doubtful triumphs, a menagerie of eccentric animals weave an absurd thread of magic through the tale. From dippy dogs to sneaky swine and dotty ducklings to belligerent bulls, every page will take you on an unforgettable journey into near lunacy.

Please rate it and, if you think it's worthwhile, it would be wonderful if you could give your personal comments, good or bad. Thanks so much.
