Having recently gone through many of the same issues, adulterous wife, bent on destroying the only good thing that ever happened to her. Needless to say we both know all the pain and frustration of trying to serve God and having the person we care so much about doing all they can to destroy us. I wrote Step Into The Light as a result of both the pain that my Ex caused, and the healing that God has given to me. I would greatly appreciate it if you take a moment to read some it and give me your honest opinion. Your book is very readable, and the reason I only gave it three stars at this time is because I need to read more and hope to see more scriptural references which IMHO would provide help to others who have struggled through the same attacks. Tommy,
What a story. I instantly loved your mother when she said "Please let me hold my crippled son from heaven" That is a true Mother's heart! As a mother of six and grandmother of four, I related to that.
My heart was heavy for you through your whole story.
I would like to suggest that you work with a professional editor and get this story polished up that you can get it picked up by a publisher. This is a story that needs to be readily available to men who have been through these same things. They need to hear that there is a God that will walk with them through it, as he did with you.
I pray that your relationship with your son be restored and that you fulfill your destiny with God. Be of good courage, He has never let you down.
Stay blessed,

But most importantly, you can see the awesome power of FAITH and strength that He has in God. I saw this book from (2) perspectives. One being from the standpoint of a Father's Love and Determination and then from the point of view of a man who went through deception, betrayal, and deceit from a wife. As I read this book I thought about the readers who could be impacted by reading this book. I thought first about the husbands who have experienced a pain like this and how their trust in God waivers as a result of being hurt by a wife that they loved with all of their heart. As a Biblical Counselor I can see that this book may provide insight to a ex-husband who is still hurting from the crisis of a painful divorce.

One of the chapters that did not seem to tie into this memoir was the one of the people sharing telling how they met Tommy and his ex-wife. I couldn't see the purpose of adding that chapter. There were some areas that could be taken out that would not lose the point that is being made.
Since the book started out speaking about Tiffany and mentioning Tommy's other sons I was thinking that I would hear more about them later, and only a small part as it related to Tiffany when she turned 21.

I am confident that in writing this book that it has provided you much healing. May the Lord continue to shine on, in and through your life as you share God's Word to others. Thank you for allowing your heart to be opened in sharing LIFE and in showing how God is seeing your through it all!

Many Blessings To You!!

Comment from Jesus Love You - 29/10/2011 20:48:42

Thank you for taking the time out to share about your storms. I began reading "She" Had A Treasure... and found your childhood healing of polio to be extremely inspiring. Not only did you overcome such a debilitating disease, but you went so much further than most who are even born with natural athletic ability.

I have some suggestions which you might want to address to make your book more readable to a wider audience.

1. Your writing style tends to use a lot of "air quotes," beginning in the title itself and continuing throughout the book. I am not certain why these quotation marks are used, but they tend to subconsciously communicate cynicism ("She" in the title) and religious unbelief ("God" and "Lord"). From what I can gather from your writing, I sense that these are the very last things you want to convey, so I am going to advise you very strongly to go through and remove every quotation mark in you text which is not needed. You may want to have the text edited by a second pair of eyes..Of course, when you are quoting dialogue, the quotation marks are absolutely necessary; but in these cases, make sure the punctuation (commas, periods) are inside the quotation marks-not outside of them.

2. There is a lot of tense-shifting between the present and past tense. You need to establish which tense you want to use and stick with it.

3. Overall, be wary of how you portray those who have hurt you, even if you are 100% in the right. This is a unique heart challenge to those who are writing their personal memoirs. As non-fiction writers, we need to always make our relationships our chief priority and publishing a book about how others have hurt us can have the effect of destroying any chance of future reconciliation. I admit that I have only read a little of the text so I don't know where this book is going, but I just wanted to put that counsel out there to keep in mind. As believers, we are called to a high standard of forgiveness which is impossible without being supernaturally empowered and filled with the love of God.

Blessings to you.

The drama and the circumstances in this book are so horrific that you would ASSUME that it is FICTION. But unfortunately it is the honest truth. This book was written with so much passion, anxiety, trials and tribulations, undying love and extreme tragedy but in the midst of each emotion that the writer goes through he searches to God for answers in his word. For every moment of pain and heartache the author includes biblical passages straight from the word of God that gives him strength to face another day. You will find yourself in the author's shoes because we have all had times in our lives where the Devil tried to completely destroy us and engulf us in a horrible storm. But GOD and only GOD can get us out of it. I assure you that when you start to read this book, you will not be able to put it down. The author lost his wife, his son, his job and was thrown in jail. How did the author refrain from taking matters into his own hands and embark on a killing spree??? How does a man whose hands can be registered as lethal weapons refrain from killing another man or woman instantly? The whirlwind of terror was unbelievable but through it all he still searched for the face of God. Sometimes we hold on to the one thing that God himself is trying to break us away from because HIS ways are not OUR ways and he knows what we need best. Even the best of us have put our unconditional love and trust in the wrong person. The journey the author goes through is mindboggling but in the end with undying faith in God the Author will truly become a CONQUEROR against all odds!!!!

Comment from Barbara Jurgensen - 14/03/2011 01:09:20

You have a good story here and I think it would be most effective if you got right into the tale without the explanations. Maybe even start when the state troopers drive up to your house--that would get readers right into it. You can fill in the back story as you go along. I'm giving it some stars.
