Hi Jenny! Thank you so much for your kind words, I'm so glad you enjoyed the book. Thanks for supporting it on Authonomy and adding it to your shelf. In other news - there will be a sequel (RULER), which I am currently planning to serialize here and at other places online next fall. Between now and then, in March actually, I'll also be posting LETTERS FROM NEW YORK, a novella that takes place shortly after Mills returns to the Big Apple, before the events of RULER. Because that won't be a proper full-length novel, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to share it here, but it will be available to read elsewhere online, namely at Wattpad, Goodreads, Figment and Movellas.

Comment from Jenny Matzke - 09/11/2012 02:37:12

I just finished your book and it was amazing. I'm a sucker for supernatural romances, and this one ticked all the boxes for me. I was heartbroken in the last few chapters - the 'damned' romances always pull me apart, especially when you have characters like Mills and Keel that are written in the way that makes you see them as destined to be together forever.

I'm sincerely hoping that with the ending you have given them, a sequel is planned, as I would have no qualms at all about spending another five hours reading it. This is the first book on Authonomy that I chose to read, and I am so glad that I took the opportunity to become acquainted with such wonderful characters. Leaving you with very high stars and I hope you get this one published, as I would go out and buy it for my bookcase.

Each chapter is written with purpose...I can clearly say "this is what happened in that chapter," which, for some reason, I really like. There is action in every chapter, the kind of action where things actually happen...exciting, and life-changing. Your dialogue is intense, your descriptions just enough. Your MC's imprisonment was painted in depth. I thoroughly enjoyed what I read, and almost skipped forward to the last chapters but stopped myself because I enjoy the story too much. A fine job. Highly starred.

Your detailed description of the protagonist's world was nicely done too. Your concept echoes Charlain Harris and a teenage Anne Rice. It's amazing the little things that still manage to sneak by both myself and my editor. Amusingly enough, my editor on this project had me add a lot of that classroom detail in to the first chapter. Her argument being that by seeing how Mildred thinks/relates to her classmates the reader will learn more about her and her personality right from the get-go, and also that it grounds it in a world teens will recognize before we leave it for considerably more fantastic and horrific terrain.

Thanks again for taking the time to read and comment on the first chapter.

[QUOTE] Monica,

I read the first chapter, and think you are developing something really good. The opening is a gentle catch, but works quite well. The reader is kept waiting while you fill in some of the gaps, but if the school friends in the algebra exam are not vital to the story, I would chop it back a bit.

I spotted the following:
"If my parents were waiting in the office, that it meant it was Mikey." Has an extra "it".

"At the sight of them my breathe hitched..." should be "breath".

"My Mum’s face was dry by time..." should have "the", "My Mum’s face was dry by the time..."

Best regards

What is the drama that has pulled her fom the classroom. Uncle Curtis feels like a ruse, so we stay hooked to find out what is going on, and this intrigue is maintained right to the end of the chapter.

Good clean narrative is accompanied by genuine believable dialogue.
