about me

I'm an author and an award-winning professional journalist from Florida. Mute has been released by Silver Leaf Books and is available on Kindle (see link below).

Thanks to everyone on Authonomy who helped me get my novel ready for publication.

I am willing to swap reads and provide honest feedback. While I'll seriously look at other novels, I can't promise that I'll back everything that I read. I will always try to offer pointers.

Samples of my books are offered here.

"Mute" is about a police officer who becomes the foster parent of the only witness to a string of bizarre murders around a lagoon. Seeing her parents beheaded has robbed the girl of her speech, but the officer's superior demands that she speak up before the mysterious creatures in the lagoon overwhelm the police force. I posted part of the novel here.

If you want to read the rest of Mute, it's on Kindle.

There's even a YouTube presentation of Mute's Chapter 24: http://youtu.be/i7_agmwqofw

"The Centauri Generation" is about the first generation of kids born on a space ship leaving our solar system. It is posted on this site. I need to fix some things regarding the speed and time of space travel before this one is ready.

Famous After Death

Brian Bandell

Everything else has gone viral, so why not murder? Three Miami teenagers turn victims into web celebrities.

Three Miami teenagers seeking internet fame thought it would be a riot to post videos of risky pranks online, then a police officer gets killed, and their fun really begins. The more outrageous the murder, the more hits they garner. Chris, Jorge and Kelso spend their lives in obscurity, but the victims in their viral videos are Famous After Death.

With his religious sensibilities deeply offended by the millions of hits the anonymous murder videos are getting, cyber cop Clyde Deauville sets out to track down those responsible. Yet the closer he gets to the answers, the closer the bloodshed creeps to his door. Will Clyde become famous for the wrong reason?

This novel is being reviewed by my publisher. I welcome honest feedback to help me fine tune it for release. All comments are returned in kind.

Please excuse the basic cover until I get a better one.

Mute

Brian Bandell

A detective’s love for an orphaned girl witness has her turning a blind eye to evidence that could stop a wave of unnatural murders.

Mute follows detective Monique “Moni” Williams, who is recovering from child abuse and feels held back by racial stereotyping on the force. If there’s any hope of stopping the murders along Florida’s Indian River Lagoon, she must coax out Mariella’s account of the gruesome beheadings of her parents. The traumatic attack has rendered the eight-year-old mute. Moni vows to protect her from both the killer and her supervising detective as he demands answers in the case.

The pressure on Moni intensifies when tumor-stricken animals, from gators to deceptively deadly manatees, attack people in the lagoon. Then they pursue Mariella. The girl’s drawings foreshadow several murders, which carve up witnesses and people who pestered the girl. Moni refuses to acknowledge the pattern, even as the toxic changes in the lagoon threaten life along the Space Coast. Can Moni protect the girl? Or is the child the last one who needs saving?

Mute is intended for fans of reality-bending thrillers, such as Dean Koontz novels, with a touch of The X Files and Fringe.

Silver Leaf Books has released the full ebook http://tinyurl.com/874vpyz. This is a sample.

Feedback is returned in kind.

The Centauri Generation

Brian Bandell

Surviving the teenage years is hard enough without having to do it on a space ship.

As the first member of the Centauri Generation - the children born on a 60-year journey to the nearest solar system - Shelly Evers has lots to learn. But what's the fun in that? Her passions aren't that much different from those of girls on earth, except she'll never hit the malls or beaches of the blue planet unless she can convince the crew to turn the space ship around. With the original explorers slowly dying off, she'll get her chance, but it won't do much good if her generation can't run a space ship.

The elders who started this mission won't go out quietly. They'll make sure Shelly and her generation finds a habitable star, even if they have to break some hearts, and a few skulls.

The novel is completed at about 123,000 words. I posted half of it here.

I return reads. See my profile for more details.

You set up an interesting world story and set of cultures. It's a bit hard to identify with the characters and I feel a bit more charisma to them would help. I would like to feel that I have a stake in her story and it would be rewarding to see her succeed. You're a good writer. I'll back this. ... view book

I like Ava's personality. She's respectful and humble. I'm not sure what her goal is initially, other than he's trying to ignore the spooky things and make her way to college in a big city. Then she slowly finds a quest in saving Bo. I like how you weave in the foreboding elements, the signs of ... view book

This is a cool story. The prologue is a nice fantasy tale for young adults. Chapter one is post-apocalyptic, although it could also be for young adults. I like how you work through the confusion of him waking up in the rubble and then slowly introduce the world. You don't need to capitalized "fi... view book

This is a good opening. Anlynn is a tough character, a real killing machine. It's interesting that after losing her memory she returns to her "nature" of escape and murder. You call the old man Hoffle before he reveals his name to her. I don't get why the guard opened her cell without checkin... view book

I like the multiple mysteries you're setting up here: the stinky plant, the dead body that's not reported, the people tracking Carl. Compelling plot lines. I also enjoyed the descriptions of the river and Carl's love of it. Carl's reaction to the break in seems a little understated. But maybe th... view book
