about me

Posted are the first eight eight chapters of my first completed novel, Shrinking Violet Sherman. I was at a point of depression, thinking this book would never come out, when I stumbled upon a sponsor who paid for all of my publishing costs. Now what?
My guts are completely intwined in everything I've ever written, and when I read the work of others,I feel like those writers have given me the gift of consuming their guts. So, I guess, for me, this whole book game is like a big emotional plate of tripe.

Shrinking Violet Sherman

Heather Pioro

Shrinking Violet Sherman is a parable about being so sedated by Big Media and obssessed with celebrity that one forgets how to think for himself.

Shrinking Violet Sherman is a contemporary parable about what happens when we become so sedated by Big Media and obssessed with celebrity that we forget how to think for ourselves. Moreover, it shows that we are not victims who have been forced into complacency, but willing volunteers- lining up to compromise our identities. Violet Sherman undergoes an unbelievable physical transformation that rockets her into the public spotlight. As she is more and more enveloped in the world of instant fame, she understands for the first time the absurdity of worshipping someone you don't know simply because you've seen them on TV. Like so many of us, she constantly complains about what she feels is wrong, but does little to change the situation. Is it too late for Violet to achieve any kind of legitimate personal growth? Is it too late for all of us? Imagine your body shrinking smaller and smaller until you are no more than a chunk. Imagine being swallowed and traveling through another person's guts. Imagine when the ride is over everything goes back to normal...almost.

Thanks. I don't think I've been back around these parts for nearly a year. It's nice to get a surprise of a positive comment. And, that IS the problem with doing a small press where all the effort falls on your own shoulders- no matter how many times I scrutinized the book, there is nothing like a s... view book

thanks everyone for your comments. Wow, it's kind of strange to think that my writing is reminiscent of poetry. I never really thought about that. My interenet is down and I'm just checking it at my mom's house, but I am eager to get back and start reading! view book

i just read the first 2 chapters when the kids woke up. i will toatlly keep going. The stream of consciousness reminds me a bit of GUy Ritchie's narrative script writing. sometimes, i do get a little lost, but I'm definitely intrigued. I tihnk you'l find an audience here. view book

I see the formatting issues and I am really frustrated by it all. These files have gone back and forth from printing format back to the standard ms word format. When I first formatted my book for printing I lost all of my tabs and had to go back in and indent the thing again- by hand wihth the space... view book

Hey, David, i saw your thread on facebook, and read a bit of it tonight. I have to agree with everyone that it is really compelling. I don't know if you ave to change your first chapter, really. I think maybe if you end the first chapter after the attempted suicide it lend more impact. You know, her... view book
