about me

Who am I?
Well, I am a Swedish woman, in my 60ies, living with my husband in a small city about 100 kilometres south of Stockholm. Those are the boring facts, so let me try once more to tell you about me.

Who am I? Well, lots of people – among them myself – would call me a naive and blue-eyed person. I always expect people to be nice and therefore I often run into trouble. Read my book and you will see what I mean. On top o f that my husband and I are very quick at making decisions – whether the issue is about emigrating, buying a summer house or getting a dog. Once you have made up your mind there is no time to loose so just go for it!

My husband had a stroke two years ago and is now sitting in a wheel-chair. But his mind is as clear as it ever was and that is a true blessing. So, although we are nowadays somewhat restricted in moving around in the world, we still have lots of plans and find life quite ok.

Now about my book: I started writing it in Swedish (Blåögd i Luhya-land) and self-published it in Sweden. As I thought it could be interesting also for other nationalities I then translated it into English. A European publishing company found my English version on www.smashwords.com and has sent me a draft of an agreement. They want to translate it into their language and promote it world wide.

So if there are any other publishers or agents looking into Authonomy, please observe that I'm still looking for a publisher for the English and Swedish versions.

Have a nice read!

The complete book has about 123900 words.

Blue-eyed in Luhya-land

Gunilla Fagerholm

Swedish middle-aged couple exchanges comfortable life in Sweden for a clay-hut on a maize field in Western Kenya. Corruption. Hardship. Joy. Hostility.

A rather normal middle class Swedish couple in their fifties left their suburban life in Sweden in search of something new – a contrast to the secure Swedish Welfare State. They sold their small house, packed their belongings in a shipping container, and left Sweden behind. They went to Africa.

This book tells the true story of how they, during five years, lived as the only Europeans in a small village at the edge of one of the last rainforests in Kenya. They moved from a stressed life to a simple one, a clay hut on a maize field in Western Kenya, without any of the modern conveniences. On their own, they built a small rainforest hotel as the start of a new life. But life turned out difficult; corruption, tribal traditions and witchcraft hindered the blue-eyed couple in their efforts to help the suffering villagers.

The story reflects this turbulent time with a lot of positive and negative experiences, arising in the meeting of contrasting cultures and traditions; Swedish meeting tribal Kenyan.

Sue, I have been reading some chapters here and there and have enjoyed it. I think you write well and with empathy. Maybe some more editing would be good as I have seen places where semicolon or comma are needed in order to get the meaning of the phrase. But as a whole I like it, so I am backing it... view book

Valerie, This is a beautiful tale which reminds me of the tales of long ago. This doesn't make it less attractive. In a way I would also say it could have been a true African tale, told through generations. You write in a beautiful language and can certainly make the reader see all the happenings. ... view book

Anjuli, Thank you very very much for taking your time to read as far as Chapter 15 and for giving me that extensive comment. I was so happy that you seem to care. In your first paragraph in the comment you say that the fact that we are Swedish could limit the number of readers and that us being Sw... view book

Sorry Bora, I was sure I had already commented and backed your wonderful book. It is so sad to read about the suffering Cambodians but you do it in a great way. It is telling me so many things I didn't know. Good luck with it! Backed. Nillan view book
