about me

Hi! I'm a young author in Georgia, USA, and am hoping to find a publisher for the books I'm trying to finish this year. One of these is "Carolina and Hubert", the book I have posted here. I have tons of ideas, so I see myself sticking around for awhile here.

For those of you who are so kind to read and comment on my story, I've posted what is almost a first draft...well, maybe second. I'm updating it per your comments at intervals...so leave lots for me! :) For those of you who might wonder about the pace (how many more twists might I have?), I can assure you that plenty more are on their way! Keep checking back to see what I add next, and how I improve what's already here.

As with some other authors here, I'm not interested in reciprocal backing of books, although I can be persuaded to do a reciprocal read if you ask nicely. :) ---- and you never know if I might just adore your writing. However, I have an allergy to fantasy, horror, and erotica, so I give those a wide berth. I particularly enjoy historical fiction, Christian books, history, and grammar. If it's on my bookshelf, it means I think it ought to be published!

I play violin in two symphonies; love to read old books; write addictively; knit, crochet, sew, and cross-stitch; attend church often; write more; play piano; love being with friends; write some more... you get the picture. I also do some copyediting work when I get the chance, and am considering starting my own editing service; I'd call it "The Grammar Nurse".

I love long words, so you might have to ask me to define a few. I'll police your grammar as nicely as possible, but I really do hate commas and apostrophes all over the place...please keep them well-mannered. :) I've taught English as a Second Language and music. I relish getting tons of comments on my book, and try to reciprocate in kind--so if you need me to go easy on your darlings when I return or give a read, please let me know.

And, if you don't like historical fiction, take a look at my stuff anyway. I think you'll enjoy it!

Rosalia

Hannah Gridley

Rosalia Thornton, a sheltered girl of sixteen, is suddenly thrown into a world of secrets and suspense when a mysterious enemy threatens her father's life.

The year is 1898. The place is the American Midwest. William Thornton is a typical product of the American Dream, a man who has become rich by the untiring work of his own hands. His daughter, his only child, is all in all to him. Their life is idyllic until a mysterious enemy sets out to ruin him.

Rosalia Thornton's kind, Christian father is the center of her life. Her world is shattered when the mysterious Enemy ruins her father's business, empties his bank account, and threatens his life. As they commence a desperate fight for survival which spans an ocean and six countries, they try to discover who the Enemy might be.

The search causes Rosalia to question her family's past. Intrigues and family secrets beyond her wildest imagination await her discovery. What really happened to her mother's family? What in the secret past would lead a strange man to wait years to take his vengeance on the father she thought nearly perfect?

Follow Rosalia, her father, and their friends in a story filled with mystery, suspense, and surprises.

Carolina and Hubert

Hannah Gridley

My book, Carolina and Hubert, is a compelling historical fiction work set in Scotland between 1807 and 1813.

When 17-year-old Carolina Channing hears that Hubert Atherton has been killed, no one expects her to react; after all, her father's family has a long-standing feud with the Atherton clan. Only her faithful nurse knows that she was secretly married to him a mere two months before. As Carolina battles both morning sickness and the deep grief over her sudden widowhood, she must guard her secret from her father lest he throw her out of his home.

Meanwhile, old Asa Atherton, Hubert's grandfather, conceals a secret of his own: Hubert was not dead when he was carried back to mysterious Castle Atherton on a litter. Asa, furious that his 21-year-old grandson has married the daughter of his enemy, decides to teach the "boy" a lesson. After a false funeral, Asa sends Hubert to sea, making an agreement with a rough sea captain that Hubert must not escape until he is ready for him to return.

Can Hubert escape before Carolina's father decides to arrange a marriage for her? How can she conceal the baby that she is expecting? And what will Asa Atherton do if he discovers that his hated granddaughter-in-law is mother to his great-grandchild?

So glad you've posted another book, Audrey! I had time for the first three chapters tonight. The first two were great, but the third could use some polishing. First was one of my pet peeves, misused possessives. It should be "The Monahans' ___ " with the apostrophe following the S, for a plura... view book

Chapter four: adds an interesting new perspective to the story. I loved the first paragraph; I could see Marsh. The only problem is in the third paragraph. "Marshes", not "Marsh's"!!! Apostrophes don't form plurals. Adding -s or -es does. view book

Chapter three: also good. I like the final paragraph especially. It seems to hint what the rest of the books will be about! view book

Chapter two: hardly anything to improve. Great job...interesting! view book

I have read the first two chapters. This is interesting and very well written, so it is no surprise to find it in the top five. There is a hint of mystery as to what connected these people and what Chloe intends to gain by having them on her show. If I had more time I would definitely keep readin... view book
