I find this absolutely fascinating. It pulls you in straight from the start and takes you on such a journey into the deepest regions of man. Backed with pleasure! view book

OK, I promised myself that I wouldn't give in to spam. I stuck this on my watchlist and I was going to look at it later. I'm halfway through a chapter of one of my own books now and had just popped on to see if anybody else had written about it. But I was intrigued by the idea of this and it does make fascinating reading. It has brutal honesty and grit and I think that it has huge potential. WIll back it with pleasure.

Marvelous Barbara. I love all the parallels in this opener (and I've just noted that Jaxbee below has used that word too). It goes straight into the action too and pulls no punches, I like that.

On my shelf

Carolyn this is really really sweet. I can just imagine t his being told to a 8-10 year old and loving it. I think its also interesting the way you deal with life and death which we all have to face in the real world. I thought your use of words and language here is bouncy and friendly. I think you have a real knack of talking to children which is very very rare. You praised me for my writing but I think you should never sell yourself short. You're a very talented children's writer and that's very special. Tolly's World is worth a shelving!

Wow what a journey! Yes I was looking forward to reading this and I'm glad I did. This is wonderfully surreal yet it is stuffed with powerful description which brings you into it. I love too the fact that it is in the first person and present tense. When I read books like this it give you a sense of the immediate and it feels like a dream you are having. I have to agree with the previous comment completely that it is addictive. On my shelf for sure!

Robert it's good to read stories with strong female proganonists and you get all of the flavours here that this is going to be a good one. Love the name 'Dana Brantano', I think names say alot about a character. All the time I was reading t his I was thinking of Dana Scully, an old crush of mine. That and the fact that it is so marvellously written I'm going to put it on my shelf.

David this is utterly delightful. There's a lovely oldy-worldy feel about the way that you write that I find completely charming. It's slightly Lord of the Rings, only readable. Delightful characters and a gripping tale.
Backed!

Pia, I decided a long time ago that I wasn't going to comment on books and was going to leave that to the more vocal. I decided instead that I would just back the ones which I truly liked and saw true potential in. But seeing as you asked so nicely...
This is a lovely peace of writing, words so well weaved and in places almost poetical. I love first person approach writing like this as it puts you in touch with the main character straight away. You get right in Cara's mind and get into what she is feeling from the start. As for mistakes and anomolies I could see anything from what I have read. It all flowed well as far as I could see.
Please don't get the wrong idea reading this but there is this compulsion with a lot of the writers here to back a book simply because they have backed theirs. I'm not like that, I am much more realistic. I am going to back this not for that reason but for that fact that what you have is a good, solid story wonderfully written and worthy of a real shelf. I'll put you on my virtual one for now. It deserves one in Waterstones.

All the very best of luck.

Finally got to it Helena. Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
What fun this is, A hero that's a shoe is utter genius, and to think that you could feel such sympathy for one has given me a different aspect on things and I feel completely different about my new trainers and for some reason I don't want to throw away the old ones anymore. I thought this was fun, I thought it was original and I thought it was mad, I thought it was warm, I thought it was humorous, and I thought it was on my shelf but It wasn't so I'll put it there right now.

All the best.

This is cracking stuff. I must confess though, although I write fantasy (comic) myself I didn't think I would like this as much as I did. enough said now - shelved!

All the best.

Hi Maureen.

I was basically going to put all this stuff down here but I see Andrew has beaten me to it. Fun yes, loads of fun. reading this brought the mischevious little boy out it me. (I never was one so I think the world is well overdue.) Roald Dahl? In the nicest possible way, yes this is wonderfully Dahlesque! Definitely one for litte boys with thoughts of sticking gum on his teacher's chair or putting superglue on the toilet seat just before granny goes in there.

Love this, goin on my shelf!

All the best.

Sir!

This is marvellous. Just what I like, lots of interesting dialogue, fascinating characters and a story that just bounces along (no offense intended to Jonah of course). Really love this sir.

Good show! Backed sir!

Peirre! I got to this at last. Apologies for not getting to it sooner. I keep getting error messages from this machine and it starts shutting itself down and its most annoying. I've just looked att he first few chapters now and will say this is really good. I'm afraid that despite graduating with flying colours with a literature degree and being a member of numerous creative writing classes and read hundreds of books I find it hard to be critical of other people's work. I certainly wouldn't even begin to tear another writer's work apart. We all work very hard on what we do and one could end up destroyed. Whether I stay on this site or not is hanging in the balance at the moment.

I will just say that this is an enjoyable read, a marvellous voice you have and a very compelling story. I look forward to read your other one soon.

All the best!

Lexi I've just cut through the first chapter like a hot knife through I Can't Believe It's Not Butter! This is SO inviting and I hardly noticed that I started the second. I'm cursing myself now that I didn't look at this alot sooner it is such a good story. I found myelf drawn into the book straight away and I felt that immediate link to your characters that makes for such a great story. I read the pitch and knew straight away that this was something that was going to grab me. Catch a Falling Star is definitely something I would take off the shelves if and when it turns up in Waterstones! Something else I have to add to this is that it is when I read something like this, it makes me want to go back and look at my own work.

Cracking read!

Well and truly and deservedly backed!
