about me

Many have been a bit confused about the certain expressions used in LIFE MAKES A NOVEL...some wondering if it is because English is my second language, some actually knowing it for what it really is: a deliberate use of such language and appreciating it. I thank those of you who knew and appreciated it. For the others I am now attempting to explain these points away: First of all, English is my first language or my birth language. So no, it is not my second language and I am not using flowery expressions or non-English expressions because of that. The act is deliberate. I learnt Urdu when I shifted to Pakistan, and I learnt French growing up too. I teach French apart from Scriptwriting. I appreciate all languages perhaps why I pick them fast the trick being to be able to think like the natives.
Now where any language is concerned, one must understand that it can never stagnate as we human beings never stagnate and our language and the changes within it reflect our thoughts, our cultures and the changes in them. It reflects us. As those who have read both my books will note my style as a writer is not singular; it varies according to the theme and subject. So where my language in NOVEL is flowery and a little colonial (because it represents the sub-continent in general and no the expressions are not always sub-continental either, they are deliberate formations or old colonial expressions from Africa, UK etc) it is totally different in THE MIST. The language is according to the subject and the atmosphere produced. So yes, it is deliberate. I hope now the readers may read NOVEL with more ease...except for certain typo mistakes which may even appear grammatical and for that I apologise in advance, and will definitely look into them as and when pointed.
My two projects for TV are soon to be aired in a few months, wish me luck. One is a very light romantic comedy with dark comedy shades, and the other is completely dark or noir in essence concerning heavy and dark themes like life and death, spirits, mysteries and the such. So far it is all going well, which is why I am in fact not very active on authonomy at the moment, so do forgive me.
I wish you all luck: many marvellous stories here and many wonderful writers...please do not hesitate to experiment with language, that is what makes it rich and that is how it develops, like Urdu literature and Persian literature even French literature (which really became rich after the Algerians, Egyptians and Moroccans worked on it) which are some of the richest languages on earth, so much so that Urdu is spoken in various dialects (as is English), one of the more popular known as Hindi, around Asia and Mauritius. I do know the feeling when English seems desecrated when spoken differently, as does French or even Spanish and the same happened to Urdu when Hindi came up with the most street-like image of the original language, but that also says something of our languages does it not? They are global in that they are popular and not without reason.

favourite books

Agatha Christie and Enid Blyton are all time favourites. Also enjoy Franz Kafka, and most french and Russian Literature. Appreciated Pascal too, for some odd reason. Most people don't. Also have alot to choose from in Urdu writers, especially the old ones like Saadat Hassan Manto, Bano Qudsia, Qurut-ul-ain Haider, Persian authors like Roomi, Khalil Jibran the works!

THE MIST

Nagwa Malik

The ex-director of ISI has formed a covert operation of extreme secrecy that officially does not exist, known as ‘The White Mist’ or ‘The Mist.’

THE MIST is a spy novel, dealing with today’s conspiracies, mostly political, and regarding intelligence agencies. Tanya is a Pakistani black ops agent also called a KNIGHT, belonging to a secret intelligence agency that officially doesn’t exist. This intelligence agency, called THE MIST, is independent of and with the power to investigate the the governing body, including the President, as well as the other intelligence agencies working under the government or the army.

Being a non-existent agency, it also has a global immunity.

The job of Tanya is to penetrate all groups that show signs of terrorist activities, especially the registered groups, in order to find out who exactly runs them, whether they are genuine militants or fronts for particular governments.
She is on a two-fold mission: to expose the truth behind war, and to steer Pakistan clear of the war.

Many books stereotype Muslims as terrorists; The Mist offers an alternative view and presents the real picture, or the other side of the picture, so that the world may wake up to some literature that doesn't fit the stereotypical norm. The truth sprinkled with fiction to inform and entertain the common man.
