about me

I’m a happily married woman with three children I adore. I enjoy mostly everything on this beautiful Earth and right now, Spring, is my favorite time of the year.
I never had material things as a child, except for a rag doll my grandma made for me, once, but everything of sentimental value I've ever owned, I've guarded passionately. Some of these things are old black and white pictures of my grandparents, a statue of Jesus, so old the arms are missing, but it belonged to my grandmother, and so i cherish it. I take it out of the box once in a while and reflect on the seven years I spend in her care, from the day i was born. Sometimes these things make me smile tenderly, and other times the odd tear makes its way down my cheek. Other important things I've guarded and carried with me wherever i went, were the diaries i kept from the age of eight till my exodus to Canada from Portugal The words in these diaries are now part of The Path to Survival.
I'm a lucky girl. The love i was shown by my grandparents has guided me all of my life, creating avenues in my heart where compassion, appreciation, respect, goodness and love for my fellow human beings and all other creatures, reside.

If i owe you a read, please send me a gentle reminder.:)

The Path to Survival

Maria Trautman

For this girl, slavery was not an option.

In a remote village forgotten by the civilized world, an old woman sits on a small stool by the hearth. She works the hot coals around the three-legged iron pot while on the floor beside her, a small infant sleeps on a pile of hay. They don’t have much, but the old woman cares for the little girl as if she were from her own womb.

Dear Christine, I love the first three chapters of your book. Chapter one " Reflections". Heidi’s story, with all the loveliness that comes with being a ballerina, touched my heart, especially at the end when she reminisces. I actually looked up The Firebird, and could easily follow your interpre... view book

CLF 2 “review” Dear Linda, To have won the lottery, what a dream. Obviously this dream came true for Rita and Jack and as you described their reactions, especially Rita’s, I could see and feel their excitement. You painted a great picture of that moment. I’d like to share some observations. Ple... view book

Angela, I find your story very apealing even though i didn't read all of it. The drama of Devil's lake , the mystery who is, Philip, and your excellent way of telling the story. Your description of Philip is very vivid while at the same time, very nebulous, almost as if he's from another world. As... view book

Dear Geoff, What an exquisite read. Really, i can't imagine people living the way Miller and Bellord lived, and after six chapters i'm still not sure of your current role in their lives. I look forward to reading more at the next opportunity because it's really an excellent story, and you ability ... view book

Hi, Bethany. I just want to give you a huge Hug. Mental illness has no reason to be, it just is, apparently. I wondered why you thought of protecting your hands when in fact you intended to disfigure yourself. So many questions and so few answers. I still wonder why you thought of yourself as the m... view book
