about me

Hello,

This is really scary, not used to putting myself 'out there' - surely that's why we become writers, to sit in a room and not socialise with anyone? You mean I have to, gulp, interact? Eek!

Am kidding, I do actually have some social skills, am just not very good at 'virtual relationships' (I use Facebook for snooping, not living through) so please bear with me. And now I sound like an old fart...excellent.

'Limbo Dancing' is my first book. I took a year out of my very busy and important career (working in a letting agency...write what you know...) and this was the result.

It was kind of now or never - I didn't want to get to forty and still just be talking about writing a book.

And now I don't want to get to forty and not have anyone read the bloody thing.

And what I really don't want to do is go back to work full-time and have to admit defeat - HELP!!

And I promised my nine-year old he could have my old lap-top if I got published. And I don't want to disappoint him.

Think of the children, Harper Collins scouts! The children!

Good luck everyone,

Hayley

Limbo Dancing

Hayley Hoskins

Two girls: One stuck in limbo; one stuck in a rut. Can they help each other get to where they need to be?

Polly and Meg are two girls who live in the same town but don't know each other...yet.
Polly is a spiky, funny teenager stuck in limbo following a car crash. Her days are spent bobbing around aimlessly or watching her family, until one day she is drawn to Meg - a young woman stuck in a dead-end job, with the boss from hell; the monstrous Harriet who has a terrible temper, terrible wardrobe and terrible, terrible hair.
Meg has a history of dealing with her problems in a damaging way - she has a history of self harm - but believes herself to be coping, feeling safe in her dull routine. But how will she cope when the foxy Camilla, the bully who plagued her school days, gets a job in her office? Can Meg deal with her new colleague? Is it really Polly's mission to help Meg get through it without hurting herself? And what of the mystery surrounding Polly's accident - is everything really as it seems? Who will end up helping - or hurting - who? Can either of the girls escape from their own personal Limbo?

No! Got to chapter 3 and it locked me out - author updating, apparently, which is great - more to come! Really enjoying it so far, Ginny is well-drawn, nicely acerbic, she could easily be wishy-washy which would be unsatisfying, but I'm rooting for her - she seems like the 'normal' character a... view book

This is great stuff - am totally absorbed and intrigued by the intertwining lives of your characters. Is is wrong to have a bit of a crush on Matthews?! Lynda La Plante meets Kate Atkinson - good work! view book

Made me smirk throughout - always a good thing! Would agree with the POV comments but didn't jar enough for me to notice it until I'd read the other comments... so no big hooey. Great premise for a novel, excellent dialogue, will be reading more in the near future! view book

Hi Warrick, Have now had chance to read a few chapters and I'm really enjoying it! Have to say I was a little unsure of the concept initially - perhaps something that would work in a short story rather than a novel - but you've approached it with such wit that I'm more than happy to read on. ... view book

Thank you very much Georgia! This is all very new to me - I think I need to put a day aside to see what I'm supposed to be doing, seeing what books to put on my shelf, checking out the forums and stuff - it's amazing to have people other than my writing group read it. Have you found authonomy help... view book
