about me
Sally Apokedak was born into a missionary family and spent her early years in Taiwan. By the age of six, she had traveled around the world. The wanderlust she acquired early followed her into adult life. She has worked as far north as Barrow, Alaska (in the dark wintertime when the temperature got down to 58 degrees below zero—98 below with the wind-chill factor) and as far south as sweltering Santa Cruz, Bolivia, where she did short-term missions work in a mud-hut Ayore village. Her most fulfilling and challenging job, though, was staying home, taking care of her family. Her husband was a quadriplegic (he died in 2007 of colon cancer) and they adopted two children.
Sally has had short pieces published in a variety of venues, including Highlights for Children. She earned an SCBWI WIP grant and has received scholarships to writers’ conferences from the Highlights Foundation and the Cecil Murphey Foundation. She has also placed in several contests, taking a first place in ACFWs Genesis contest, in the sci-fi/fantasy category, and first place in Novel Journey’s Out of the Slush Pile contest.
