about me

I am a freelance writer, social media consultant and SEO expert. I graduated with my BA in Psychology with minors in Philosophy and English.

Even though I am a working writer, it has always been my dream to write my own novels. I am currently working on my first novel, entitled PHILOSOPHIA, which I hope to be sending out to agent's soon!

Also, if you want to learn more about how to make a living at writing while writing your masterpiece, check out my blog at http://glorytwigwriting.com/Blog.html

For all commentators and readers:
Thank you so much for reading PHILOSOPHIA and if you decide to back it I thank you even more.

However, if you do comment on my piece I would like it to be constructive and not of the "book plug" variety. At least put some names or something in there people so I at least know you tried to read it!

I put a lot of thought and consideration into my comments on others work and I expect the same if you want me to back your book.

For Read Requests:
Please do not abuse my message board. I love to get read requests, but I do not appreciate spam. If you want to request me to read something:
1. Address the message personally to me
2. Spell the title of your book correctly
3. If I don't answer, please don't keep sending me requests

If you don't follow these things, I will write you a message asking you to cease and desist in not so nice words. This might sound harsh, but think of it as good practice for agents :) You wouldn't do these things without pissing them off either.

Agents or anyone else, feel free to contact me at: kshaw@glorytwigwriting.com

Thank you and Frith,
Kayla Shaw

favourite books

I love anything and everything I can get my hands on. I have quite a diverse taste and prefer anything that has something to say about the world.
Things Fall Apart (Chinua Achebe)
The Minister's Black Veil (Hawthorne)
Maia (Richard Adams) The longest book I ever read. I think it clocks in at just under 1300 pages.
The Sufferings of Young Werther (Goethe)
The Witching Hour (Rice)
Lady of Hay (Erskine)
The Bloody Chamber (Angela Carter) One of my idols!
The Child Thief (Brom)
Songs of Albion Trilogy (Lawhead)

The Nine Worlds and the Great ....

Kayla Shaw

All great discoveries have unforeseen consequences.

The discovery of the Nine Worlds and the Great Mechanical Tree is the most fantastic discovery since the invention of steam power. The World-Tree is dying; two nations battle for control, and the only solution is to send a scout to validate the claims. However, what the two nations could not foresee was the scout, Skáti, they sent to explore the discovery, finds a truth that’s not only unexpected, but it’s a truth that's all his own.

While Philosophia incorporates elements of Norse Mythology, magical practices rooted in folklore, and elements of the Steampunk sub-genre, its focus is the exploration of what it means to be human. Experience virtue and vice, love and loss, social and moral crises through the characters destined to change their world forever.

*Please Note*
The chapters uploaded are not the final edits. The book is currently being considered by agents, but I still welcome any and all feedback.

Hi Dermit, I truly enjoyed what I've read so far. Unfortunately, I only had time to read through the first two parts, but I'll definitely be back to read more. Your command of language is amazing. You should really classify this as literary fiction because it reads like a classic. Your voice is v... view book

Hi Maeve, Thanks for pointing me in the direction of your new book; its always nice to read something outside my genre. That being said, please note that I'm not a reader of this genre so my comments could be totally off. I got to the end of chapter four (and I promise to be back for more) so my c... view book

Hi Rachel, Sorry it took me a bit to get to your story. Sadly, I only had time to read the first chapter, but I'll definitely be back to read more. I love the concept and I'm a sucker for a great steampunk adventure. There are so few of us writing it (especially women) so I love to come across one ... view book

Sue, I love love love your concept! I imagine myself with a nice mug of coco and reading your book before I fall asleep. I think what you have done here is wonderful and your writing has so much personality! I especially love the line where you say that the spell breaks at midnight because that's w... view book

Hi P. Johnson, I'm so happy that I decided to back your book and even happier that it turned out so wonderful! I honestly think you have a winner here. Sadly, I only had enough time to make it through two chapters, but I really like what I've read so far. You've created a dynamic story here with ... view book
