about me

Now that my novel "Tiger's Heart - Shakespeare's lost years" is established on Kindle (via Amazon) I am taking it off this site and replacing it with a few short stories.
This is a collection of what I call my anti-Harry Potter stories about two boys who try to fight the forces of darkness - whatever they are. In terms of genre I suppose they could be called children's stories for adults.
I have written other short stories and various pieces, which in total would run to about 60,000 words, but I think these are enough for now.
PS: Some of the stories were written years apart so there may be inconsistences. For example I see I have called Lergen "Tom" in number one, but "Christopher" later on. My apologies for this and any others.

Short stories about 10-year olds Norman Watson and Lergen, who set out to confront the forces of darkness with predictably humorous results.

This is a collection of what might be called satirical short stories for adults as well as grown-up children about Norman Watson and Lergen, 10-year old boys who have determined to fight the forces of darkness wherever they are found. Norman believes the lady in the downstairs flat (Mrs Downbelow) is a witch and it all begins there. Other adventures include a training school for wizards; aliens in an oak tree; a vampire; the witch's curse; and a final unsettling encounter with a young witch, which comes uncomfortably close to reality.
I might add to them later. There is no shortage of potential sources!

Thank you for your kind comment about Mrs Downbelow. My trouble is I don't know whether it is supposed to be an adult book for children, or a children's book adults can read. I regard it as a kind of anti- Harry Potter! When I come to look at your book I know I am in the grip of a real children's au... view book

Thank you for your kind comments. I started to read Adventurers and enjoyed it. Then something happened to the text in one of the chapters and I lost the thread, so i will try to come back to it. I like the ideas of the flying carpet and, particularly as I am somewhat aged, the relationship betw... view book

Hi: I am happy to back this book because it is well written, pacey and has interesting ideas and characters. As I have said before, however, I am uneasy at the mixture of first and second persons. Opening chapters gave me what sympathy it is possible to have for a professional killer and I was pre... view book

Hi Sheena: You ask rather a lot and the trouble is I do not know how to have your message in front of me when I am responding. Anyway i will do my best and try to be brief. The new chapter one is a great improvement. I would have liked it to be longer and perhaps finish with some indication of the ... view book

Hi Sheena: After your kind comments on Tiger's Heart, I promised to return the compliment, but I am afraid you may not entirely like what I have to say. I tend to read as an editor, having worked in that capacity for many years. I was, for example, delighted at your reference to the Cheshire Cheese,... view book
