about me

'I remember Boughton was already worrying about his vocation. He was afraid it wouldn't come to him, and then he'd have to find another kind of life, and he couldn't really think of one . . . ' - Marilynne Robinson - Gilead

The idea for An Ordinary Sunday came when I started thinking back to my childhood, and about how often I thought about running away from home ... And what might happen to me if I ever did. Where would I go? What would I pack? How would I survive?

These thoughts were then compounded by a Centrepoint poster I saw whilst coming home on the train one day. Not only did I want to write about a missing teen, but after looking on their website, I knew I wanted to write about a homeless kid.

Thank you to everyone who reads, backs, comments and/or rates. Any agents/publishers are welcome to contact me at nightcrawler1@live.co.uk.

I WILL back your work IF it interests me, fits the genres I read and is well written. I WILL NOT back your work if you're part of a desperate clique to make the Desk ...

The Owl & The Skeleton Key

Ben Daniel

This is a story in reverse, told from the perspective of fifteen-year-old Bryan, who begins to relay events after being killed by a careless driver.

You might wonder why this book's called The Owl & The Skeleton Key?

Of course, if you really want to know . . . Well, you could skip ahead to the fnal Chapter or two, but that would be pointless. Also, if I tell you this is a story told in reverse, maybe you'll think the beginning is where it ends.

My name's Bryan, or Bry, and I used to be a teenager. Now though, I'm just dead. Since there isn't much else to do, I figured I'd relay my story. Up until now that is; only working my way backwards ('cause that seems more logical).

It's a chain of events, one leading on from another, until I end up bein' killed.

So, dead or not, I'm sort of a runaway.

Mum never listens - she's too busy wooing her boyfriend, Jack - and Dad isn't around. Jack's not my only problem though; I'm a loner at school and Owen Mayhew's decided to bully me . . .

Hi Sam, I came across your collection of short stories whilst browsing for reads ... It was actually the cover (although I have no idea what that crazy illustration is) and brilliant tongue-in-cheek title, which got my attention. Then I read your snappy short pitch (followed by the absurd long one) ... view book

Hi Peter, thanks for taking the time to read and comment, really appreciate your backing. I've not posted the ending so I don't understand your comment about shifting religions? Does it matter where an idea comes from in relation to a fictional story? Ask any non church-going fifteen year old wh... view book

Hi Thomas, I remember the very first Christian Fantasty novel I read was This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti; it left a profound effect one me when I was in my late teens. I really like your cover, I don't know where you got the artwork from, but it's fantastic. Most YA Fantasy novels on here ten... view book

YARG Review: Hi David, I scrolled down to read Scott's comment on your book and could scarcely make head nor tail of it. Just from reading the first few paragraphs it's easy to tell that each sentence has been carefully crafted. Sometimes it's easy to overwrite, or not write enough, but every wor... view book
