************************************
Sad to say, Rod passed away on March 28th, 2013.

RIP, mate... though I'm bound to say the idea of you resting is one I can't envisage.

It's too often said too casually... but the world is truly a lesser place for your passing.

Pete

This ID is being hosted by another on behalf of the writer Rod Burnham.

Rod, now in his 90s, is a prolific writer as the host can testify from the amount of new work he receives regularly in his in box.

His employment during the war years having been as a member of staff at an air force base, his civilian work a physics teacher, Rod's written work has mainly been short fiction set around WWII aircraft and science but with plenty of other themes along the way. Painter, musician, inventor and creator of model aircraft, Rod's the kind of bloke who can write about what he knows best and cover a wide range in so doing.

There tends to be a strong touch of romance about Rod's work; even in his 90s he holds fast to the romantic ideal.

The novel Rod is currently writing, 'High School', is now posted along with a further work containing 100+ short stories, the collection still growing.

Rod is the kind of guy who puts 95% of people 25% his age to shame. Not only is he a prolific writer, he also makes and flies model aircraft, writes and plays music, invents things, paints and has such a zest for life and energy for it it's exhausting just watching him at it.

Please note: There's no point asking this ID for either backings or comments. Run as it is by another authonomy member it would be an abuse of the system for that member to back additional books and any comments for people's work he will provide under his own Authonomy ID.

Short Stories

Rod Burnham

A wide range of themes, from fairy stories to World War; from the macabre to slapstick comedy.

A collection of over 100 short stories from Rod Burnham, a writer now in his 90s but as prolific today as he ever was.

Across a wide range of themes reflecting wide interests and experiences, herein you will find SF, fairy tales, small philosophies, myth, magic, love, cats, film stars from days of yore, music, humour and a smattering of poetry.

Rod's stories are light, often brief sketches suggestive of broader themes or small, studied anecdotes.

With so many stories please select one at random.

High School

Rod Burnham

Roger, a fighter pilot retired from the WWII, returns to civilian life as a science teacher in a high school with with a difference...

Post-war Britain, and Roger arrives at a school as a new teacher to find the behaviour of its denizens strange and flighty. Not that he minds; he's becoming a little strange himself and with pretty colleagues around him and fun to be had, why fight it?

Unknown to them all, however, a bomb lurks in the basement, unexploded but leaking. Leaking euphoria.

A light and romantic tale in typical pre-war boys-own action style.
