about me

I have met some really wonderful people on Authonomy and read many excellent books on this site. I only wished I had more than 5 shelf spaces to support others with. For anyone who has backed A Gate Called Beautiful, even for a short time, I can’t tell you how appreciative I am.

Most horror and/or stories with graphic themes, I will respectfully decline.

God is important in my life, and I hope my books reflect his greatness! Kara

favourite books

The Bible, I love all of Jane Austin's works, Charles Dickens, Walks Alone by Sandi Rog, A Stray Drop of Blood by Roseanna White, C.S. Lewis, J.R. Tolkien, Francine River's works, Catherine Cookson and Beverly Lewis's works among many others!

A Gate Called Beautiful

Kara McKenzie

Will faith bring Claudia closer to a miracle? Might this young woman from the streets dare to hope?

Abandoned at birth, Claudia learns to survive by her unwavering faith and her determination to rise above life's circumstances.

Her quest to be healed takes her to dusty, roadside curbs, on the gritty sands around the Sea of Galilee, through mountainous terrain on the way to Jerusalem, and lastly to the foot of the cross, where she learns what ultimate sacrifice means.

Just when she imagines she has it all, her dreams are crushed, and her vision is shattered. Will she ever attain what she so desired more than anything in her life? Or had her single-minded faith been all in vain?

Amanda, This is written so well. It is clear and concise on what we can do to battle Satan in our lives and families. I think some of your statements are very powerful. When you said that ‘Satan’s goal is to persuade us to rebel against God, because he knows when our hearts are obedient to God, ... view book

Lucy, I finished your uploaded chapters. What a well-written story with such a great feel to it. You’re very talented at creating quite a unique piece of work here. I love Frank, who seems to be finding himself for the very first time in this place. The house behind the Bed and Breakfast seem... view book

There was a very relaxed, vacation-like mood throughout chapters three and four. The scenic descriptions and the adventures Frank went on gave a wonderful cottage-on-the lake feeling. I felt the warm breezes and could picture the scenes so well. I do love descriptive stories and it felt like this... view book

Lucy, This pulls you into the story right away. Your writing is very smooth. I had the feeling of Frank being very alone in the beginning. The mood of the story was very much like I would expect, a quiet house with very little movement, but a lot of thought. Frank has this huge sum of money and... view book

Scott, I was going to tell you to skip the preface you wrote, but I see you took it out. I like what you have better now. After reading your uploaded chapter, I look at the story and think you have an interesting plot going on, yet there is a lot of telling here, in places where it might come out... view book
