Have you ever wondered what would happen if a small-town news reporter, took on a large corporation? Who would win?
On July 27, 2010, the residents of Battle Creek, Michigan, woke up to a catastrophic environmental disaster. Crude oil was flowing down the Kalamazoo River right through town. From a pipeline they didn’t know existed, owned by a company they had never heard of. In the shadow of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, a massive cleanup effort began that continues to this day.
Leap of Faith is a revealing portrait of a small-town famous for breakfast cereal and an energy giant famous for owning the world's largest oil pipeline, told through the eyes of a wisecracking local reporter with a fondness for activism and Internet pop culture. First, I covered the breaking news story and then conducted an intensive investigation of the company, their corporate culture, their history, their people and their CEO. I was looking to find the worst. They gave me total access, and I found the truth.
