about me

I am a forty year veteran of the Motion Picture and Television Industry.

I have worked at all major motion pictures studios since 1970 in various capacities of Studio Administration, Motion Picture and Television Production, Publicity, and in Motion Picture and Television Project Development.

I worked at a time when the studios were considered to be families of creative personnel; not the corporate processors of in-and-out production personnel that we see so much of today. It didn't matter what one's position may have been; everyone knew each other and if they liked you, they moved you forward. MGM was such a studio for me. In the 1980's the Hollywood studios began to change, often becoming part of large corporate conglomerates and that family atmosphere was lost forever. Those times, however, always remain in the memories of those of us who were in a Hollywood in which many of us remember what we now refer to as "The Classic Era."

Although I entered into the business in 1970, much of that Classic Era training had been ingrained into our professional lives, especially at MGM, even though imminent change was not only on the horizon, but which had already begun. Hollywood has definitely changed, with new brands of production and marketing which serves the present day motion picture and television business well; different work ethics, and different production values; but there are those of us who still remember the Hollywood as it was, the motion pictures that made the studios great, and above all, those creative families of friends and colleagues who taught us, guided us and moved us forward in our lives.

I am now concentrating on my own literary projects and my first novel, "I'll Look to the Sky!" is a retro tale of Star-Crossed Hollywood about young people who were striving to achieve their dreams and goals in an enchanted era when change was beginning to happen.

A Retro Tale of Star-Crossed Hollywood

Long before such relationships became acceptable in today’s society, a beautiful and talented thirty-six year-old divorcée with two daughters fell in love with an aspiring student actor of twenty-two. Faced with the prospect of being the older woman in a tenuous relationship, she entered a world of the dreams and passions of young Hollywood hopefuls; finding love, disillusionment and resilient self-discovery. Told from the perspectives of two men and two women of principal and supporting characters, the story explores their psyches; their hopes, aspirations, struggles, consequences; and above all, their personal triumphs as they strive for their individual goals in pursuit of their dreams.

Set at a prestigious theatre arts college in Pasadena of 1968 and later in a changing Hollywood of the enchanted and free-spirited 1970’s, the story not only follows the relationship of the principal characters, but the exploits and eclectic camaraderie of supportive intermingled lifestyles around them.

You have the makings of a superb supernatural/mystery thriller. The two chapters are riveting with building suspense; replete with fine atmospheric detail and intelligent knowledge of the supernatural in addition to the well-thought out twists and turns of a fine mystery novel. What a very innovative and interesting concept! Time travel with a "Twilight Zone" premise of sequential situations. This work could form the basis of a very popular television series. I look forward to additional story chapters. My best wishes for the success of your work. - Mark I'll Look t... view book
