about me

About me?

LizX...British born, but living in the sun-drenched Canary Islands for more than two decades.

Writing on and off as a hobby developed in 2010 into some occasional freelance work on the internet - mostly in the travel sector even though I never go anywhere apart from down the pub!

Freelancing for www.grancanaria.co.uk was a fun job and encouraged me to express a different viewpoint on the place where I live.

Gran Canaria is also the theme for a new magazine - ongrancanaria. Visit me there on Issuu.com

After cutting my reviewing teeth on writing.com, I try to be a fair and honest judge of others work and hope others will do the same for me.

My first completed novel, The Dove,The Dragon and The Flame has now been published on Smashword .

Thanks to all the constructive comments and previous support of fellow authonomites. .

The Chosen One is my first attempt at children's fiction and so any feedback and constructive critisicsm is more than welcome.

The Chosen One.

Icer regained consciousness in a putrid, stinking darkness. His face pressed against something soft and hairy. The Keeper of the Cross had him.

Icer dreams of encountering his father, an explorer, who disappeared without trace when he was a child. As a native of the Terrestrial plane, he has only his intelligence and intuition to keep him alive when he journeys to the Celestial to take on the rebellious god, Valin. But nothing is ever what it seems to be and it is almost impossible to discover who tells the truth and who doesn't. The oracle, gifted to Icer by the guardians of the stone circle, isn't a lot of help either.
When Icer finds traces of his father's existence it gives the new adventurer the courage to continue, but it's not enough. As his strength and willpower fade, it's the creatures and natural resources he finds along the way which help him survive the ordeal.

The Chosen One takes place in a two-dimensional world created by using the natural elements found in the Canary Islands. Erupting volcanoes, cave houses, salt flats, the symbolic Drago tree and amongst many others, some very strange marine and reptilian life are just some of the unusual things which bring this story to life.

First thing which caught my attention was the short pitch. It was so positive, I thought, yes... that's the way to go. The long pitch wasn't disappointing either and so stopped by for a read. The opening could do with some of the I's editing out as there were just too many. First person can be mu... view book

The short pitch had me a little confused. Why? When I first read it, I concluded, because of the `they´ that Maia was a race of people. After reading through the long pitch, I realised my mistake and that she's the protagonist of the story. Maybe re-wording it a little would make it clearer. Th... view book

Loved the prologue. It really caught my attention. It's just the sort of stuff I like to read or would choose to watch in film form. One thing which jumped to my attention at the start of chapter one was the flit from one pov to the other. It started in William's then as it progressed slipped int... view book

This quickly developed into being one of my favorite reads on authonomy. To be honest on occasion, I even oohed and aahed over the sentences - then kicked my desk in frustrated jealousy. Take my hat off to you.... no further comment.... other than - absolutely wonderful stuff. view book

Brave write. The use of present tense threw me at first, but I enjoyed the way you placed the opening sentences on the page and so just got on with reading. Below are a few things which I noted down as I read through. There were to many I's dotted throughout which with a concentrated edit could b... view book
