about me

As you can see from my pic I enjoy a dangerous hobby - that's me driving if you were wondering. Oddly I have my racing to thank for my writing because I never seemed to have any time to start that novel I had promised myself; until I crashed and mangled my shoulder. I have now finished my adventure novel which has a fantasy element, humour, a high body count, and a smattering of romance - or smut as Mrs Whitehouse would have it

Out Of Time

David Sykes

A "ripping yarn" punctuated with wry humour, a pair of genuine heroes and a heroine with steely qualities to complement her captivating beauty.,

A fast paced and gripping read set in post Gulf War Iraq where two veterans of the conflict,a US Marine Lieutenant and a Sergeant from the British Parachute Regiment are thrown together. They are tasked to retrieve a stolen historic racing motorcycle, a mission which seems straightforward until they encounter Captain Hassan - a hardline Republican Guard from Saddam's experimental weapons division.
Hassan's bungled assault using untried technology maroons all three men in the 1760's where the coalition allies battle the sadistic pirate Captain Scorponi and his cut throat crew. The arrival of the British Navy in the shape of the frigate Endeavour is a double edged sword in their efforts to defeat Scorponi, for the malevolent First Lieutenant Caruthers covets their modern weapons and Scorponi desires the beautiful Mrs Somerville whom the allies have rescued from the clutches of the pirates.
The two friends desperately want to return to their own time but simply staying alive is their first and most urgent concern.

Sorry, Lenny but I really struggled to like this book, based on reading the first three chapters. I found it curiously directionless with nothing grabbing my attention. I most certainly do not enjoy giving a poor review but I am determined to be honest in my assessment - maybe it's me because you se... view book

I read the first three and was very impressed. The book started with a bang and then built the interest, a very "well organised" piece of writing. Cheers, david view book

This is very well written and I'm suitably impressed. I read the first three chapters and i shall read the rest when I have more time - if you don't make money out of this then there is no justice! Cheers, David view book

Hello again, I went back and re read then enjoyed the rest of what you have posted. An intriguing tale is developing and I look forward to reading the remainder when you write/post it. I do have a minor problem with the appearance of "Rose," she has no historyand pops up from nowhere - a classic deu... view book

Read the first three, the scene setting is good & believable - not too gung ho which is a big plus in a wartime drama. cheers, david view book
