about me
Hi
I’m Rachel Rouncefield and I’m a writer. It has taken me more or less 47 years to say (or write) that with any degree of confidence.
I write fiction for young adults, but that’s an over-simplification.
Actually, I like to think of it as stories about young people for anyone who is (or has been at some point in their life) young.
I’ll admit, here and now, that I like young people. Not in a weird way you understand. It’s just that every young person I ever met has been courageous, brave, tenacious – sometimes loud and sometimes shy – but always with enough stuff going on in their life or their brain to knock your common or garden adult into orbit.
Young people are interesting, interested, energetic (usually) and resilient – that’s why I write stories about them. Having said all that, I also think that adults sometimes forget what it was like being young – the pressure, the emotion and the decisions. On occasion the very people and organisations who want and ought to protect, listen, assist and support somehow manage to make things worse. So my stories are for and about them too!
