about me

South African born, Isle of Man resident, my working life has included being a naval officer in submarines, an accountant, a self-employed joiner/builder and, now, a novelist. My writing, both genre and style, is influenced and inspired by John Grisham, however I yearn to, one day, write a really funny, dry-humoured 'British' book. Scratch that, I am writing (two chapters in now) a really funny, dry-humoured 'British' book. Not the one on here though. Ohhhh no no no no, this one's a gem. My precious.

If I get onto the editor's desk, I'll eat my hat! I think my hat's safe for now.

For the record, my name is Mark (as opposed to 'there'. Everyone keeps greeting me with 'Hi there!'). Just saying :)

Writing experience: Grateful to have been schooled in an era when literacy was still on the curriculum and a post-school era when pen and paper, envelopes and postage stamps still existed. Apart from that, started a blog in May 2011 and wrote my novel in May 2012.

Lastly, I'm not in competition with you. I don't do politics and I will only back what's worth backing. Oh, and whatever you do, do NOT lie to me, like somebody just has. They have been reported and so will you be. I'm not messing.

Very lastly (possibly), if I said to you that I'll not ask you to read my book, I'd be lying, but it will more than likely only be after we get to know each other. If I DO spam, it will be other people's books. It's what I do! Call it 'paying it forward' if you like. It's just nice to help people, isn't it? You should try it.

Very lastly, I've removed my book because Kindle Direct Publishing think I'm offering it free. Which is making them anxious. So I've removed the exerpt I had on here.

I've read number/chapter(?) 1 (up to the discovery of the survivor in the tent). I actually found it really good (and I'm really hard to please!). It was certainly tense enough and it flowed well. Easy to visualise. At first, I thought you could have mapped the campsite in more detail, but came ... view book

Just realised you're not on here much anymore. Also went to your website. Not sure if I should buy! I probably will, but it looks like I'll be getting a can of worms for my money, not a novel!! Oh well. view book

I really like this. Only read a few paragraphs, but will come back to it. I think it's worth backing - at least until I find a reason not to (probably won't find one!). Let's try and get you up the rankings, eh? :) view book

I'm backing this, in spite of being a grumpy, almost-fifty-something old git. I would normally run a mile from this, but it comes across extremely professionally written. So fair dues! Oh, and I stumbled upon it - no spamming. That's the way it should be. Obviously I'm not going to read it, but ... view book
