Keshaar the gryphon finds himself tangled up in a country-wide war, with his very own twin brother in charge of the opposing forces.
Long ago the land contained a race known as the Alhira Hadriën, the gryphon riders. They were humans who were able to bond with gryphons, and keep them by their sides as companions. This ended the day that Zarks the gryphon attempted to murder his rider and take control of the lands of Shalarith. His rider, Torren, survived and took the role of King, fighting against Zarks.
Born into this tumult are twin gryphlets, Keshaar and Zanthar, who are left alone when their parents fail to return from a hunting trip. Terrified, Zanthar flees the aerie, and Keshaar believes his brother dead. Keshaar learns the truth when it becomes known that Zanthar has joined the war on Zarks’ side. Older now, Keshaar has befriended Torren, and so makes the decision to side against his beloved brother. A decision that will eventually lead to one of their deaths.
They believe their places in the war to be due simply to chance. What they don’t realize is that fate has pitted them against each other since they were born, in a legend so entangled they could never hope to escape.
