about me

I'm a first-time novelist and an avid, lifelong fan of contemporary women’s fiction, particularly novels with romantic and comedic undertones. A native of Washington D.C. and divorced mom of an autistic 8-year old, my writing reflects one fundamental truth: Break-ups aren’t failures—they’re source material.

The Player Magnet

K. L. Bullock

Charisse had everything right...except the Mister. As her love life is propelled into unpredictable twists, will a childhood secret keep Charisse from finding "the one"?

Charisse Tyson seems to have it all—a great job, a dream car, and a McMansion in high-and-mightyville. Everything in her life is just right…except the Mister. While lamenting the break-up with her most recent “the one” during a holiday meltdown, Charisse realizes she has a type when it comes to men—players, players, and more players. A magazine article motivates her to swear off men and examine the complex roots of her romantic fiascos.

Just five simple steps to transform Charisse’s love life to the stuff of legends, right? Life is never that easy.

She commences her D-I-Y therapy and barely cracks open her emotional toolbox when she encounters the monkey wrenches: a sexy new beau, two persistent ex-flames, and an FBI agent with life-altering secrets threatening to turn her world upside down. A tug of war ensues with Charisse dead center, creating chaos as she attempts to distinguish the Don Juans from the Romeos. As her love life is propelled into unpredictable twists not even she could imagine, will a twenty-seven-year-old secret keep Charisse from finding the right “one”?

Girl, I'm still loving this story. Definitely love your voice and your dialogue. As far as I can see, the only things that you need to work on are mechanical things like the structure of your paragraphs and dialogue and minor grammatical issues. I'm loving this. If I sound like an editor, it's beca... view book

Hi N. Monic, You know this is right up my alley, right? You have a great narrative voice. It is entertaining and it keeps you engaged in the story. I have read published writers who I don't think carry the narrative off as well as you do. Your dialogue is also very natural and not stilted. It lo... view book

This is freakin' hilarious! I love your writing style. I'd shelve this just based on the ballsy premise alone, but the humor is awesome. As to the form, it almost reads like a screenplay. I'd almost want to call it Tales from a Whore's Handbag: Act I...or Scenes from a Whore's Handbag. I dunno. Some... view book

Hi Janvier, I read through chapter four and must say that I find your story very compelling. I'm a real estate agent and my former client was a former Cameroonian ambassador, so I found the story and the setting particularly interesting. Your setting descriptions are excellent and the dialogue feels... view book

Thanks so much for your comments. Very very helpful. When you're so close to your own work, sometimes you don't catch reader's perceptions. So, I'll definitely take them to heart. I'm checking out yours now. [QUOTE] Karla Before I turn to the big picture, as I read the first 2 chapters, these ar... view book
