The Kraken Slayer

Damon Stentz

A teenage runaway gets entangled in an eccentric sea captain's obcessive hunt for a supposedly mythical sea monster.

Skipper, a 17 year old runaway, meets the brilliant but eccentric captain Elsan Tanneman, and joins him on his expedition to hunt down and kill a kraken- a sea monster most people believe does not exist- then bring the carcass back to land for the world to see. While Skipper is undaunted by the dangers that Capt. Tanneman says the krakens will pose, he suddenly finds the tight grasp of Clan Nefron harder to shake than a mass of giant, slimy tentacles. The Clan's Navy wants Tanneman's innovative ship for its own, and will do anything to get it- including planting a psychopath in the crew to foil Tanneman's expedition. Along the way Skipper and the captain's daughter Sara discover that they are part of an ancient prophecy, where they are destined to rediscover a lost utopian kingdom buried in legend. Before they can fulfil that destiny, however, they must overcome the obstacles of not only the krakens, but also of mysterious seaborne raiders that fly through the night and vanish in the light. Everything threatening Skipper and the Tannemans also threatens to start the largest sea war the world has ever known.

A very enjoyable read, and the plot itself is intriguing. A great story all around. view book

This sounds like a good story for all ages. I was worried at first that you had a really long first chapter, but it looks like it's actually broken into three, which is fine. It's a whimsical form of light fantasy that's entertaining to read without the need to constantly refer back to a map or an... view book

I like this. It draws you in right away. I also love the way you've taken your own career and actual experiences, I assume, and incorporated them into an exciting work of fiction. The fact that it actually came from you makes it all the more interesting. Good work. view book

Interesting-a love triangle between a werewolf, a witch, and a mummy. I love writing that's dialogue-driven such as this. It almost reads like a script. I'm wondering how decomposed Sadie has become, and whether any acts of necrophilia between Dev and herself are logistically possible if she's ... view book

I don't mind the grammar and typo corrections. It's hard to find them all, and I certainly don't want them there, so if you see any, please point them out so I can change them. I pride myself in my grammar and spelling, but I do type fast and sometimes don't catch my mistakes. Thanks for the ... view book
