Away With The Mountains

Maya Thomson

Meet Maya. She dreams of a self sufficient life in the Spanish mountains. Would you abandon everything you knew in search of your dream?

The big idea came to us one day in the days before we were married, before we had children and before we had a definite sense of responsibility in the world.

It was in the days when we were still young enough and arrogant enough to believe that if we worked hard enough and long enough then we might just be able to achieve anything we possibly wanted.

It seemed such a crazy idea in its essence but one which over time would carry us away and allow to us to fulfil our wildest dreams and ambitions.

Little did we know this big idea would push us to our limits physically, emotionally and spiritually. It would cause a wedge between us and our families and question a lot of what we had always held dear to ourselves. It would push our relationship with each other and with ourselves to the limit and far beyond what we thought was possible.

Perhaps if we had known any of those things before we started out then we wouldn’t have taken those first tentative steps down the road of the big idea.

Very interesting start, you had me gripped to the page very quickly, and the last sentence of chapter 1 had me very surprised. I didn't see that coming. I love the slightly old fashioned tone to your writing, its descriptiveness is lovely and you make me "feel" for each person in the room of the fi... view book

Dear Shirley what a wonderful selection of topics for Turnips and Tulips. I especially like "The Code", immediately I could relate with the love of cooking and hatred for grocery shopping. You made me laugh and I felt thoroughly delighted with the more I read. A thoroughly engaging and enjoyable ... view book
