about me

What's to say? I'm from Lancashire, live in Yorkshire because it's better (oooh, controversial). I've been writing for years, but only got round to 'finishing' Emergence recently, after getting a degree and then adding 1 to the country's unemployment stats. That's it, for now.

I've been away from this site for a long time. I've popped on back to try and stir up some creative soup in my life - I've done little to no writing in the past 7 months due to (finally) landing a job. But the itch remains, and Emergence wasn't the end of the story...

Spam away, you might as well. I'll probably ignore it, but if you're lucky and catch me in an impulsive mood, I may take a look.

Emergence

D M Sharples

Fleeing from an unknown past into a dangerous future, a young girl struggles to discover her identity and her fate.

Emergence, being the first part of the tale of the Mark Bearer’s Path, is the story of Melhiera, a young girl who knows nothing of her past. As the country teeters on the brink of civil war, Melhiera flees from the shadow-men that hunt her, and begins to search for any clues that may help her understand what she is. With few friends and only the cryptic words of the gods to help her find the answers she seeks, she comes to realise that she is at the centre of the troubles, and must discover her past in order to remove the shadow cast on the world by her destiny.

Katrina, I stumbled upon your book whilst in one of my 'looking for something I don't normally read' moods. I don't recall ever having come across the idea of a western romance, so I was curious. and, frankly, I'm glad I took a look. I got to the end of the fourth chapter, which speaks volumes fo... view book

Samuel, Sorry for taking my time with this, my time for such things is very limited at the moment. As such I've only managed to get through the first two chapters, and here's some thoughts. This is a very different approach from what I remember of your other work, being a bawdy, tongue in chee... view book

Ted, Having returned to the site after a bit of a break from writing, I am glad to see that it is still going strong, and that work of a standard such as this is climbing its way up towards the desk. I've gone through the first five chapters, and have only stopped because I've things I have to do... view book

Sara, Overall this has quite a strong voice to it, and builds into the story carefully and with a good pace. The descriptions are vivid without being too wordy, giving the reader enough to create a personalised image. This is a big part of keeping people interesed, particularly with this kind of ... view book

Samuel, I've had a good read of this, up to the end of chapter 5, and feel I can offer at least a few (hopefully) helpful comments. I expected a high quality piece of work, and that's what you have here. Your story-telling voice continues to be strong, with a good pace, intriguing plot thread... view book
