about me

During my career in the hospitality and holiday industry I’ve spent a lot of time working away from home and so I first began to write as an antidote to the many lonely nights spent in hotel rooms. I guess it must have become a bit of an obsession really, because I now write every day. My magpie brain delivers the kind of things I have either experienced, or like to read about and I'm not quite sure where it all comes from really! My wife and I live on the Somerset coast, where we enjoy the quiet, gentle way of life.

Reading is a passion and I enjoy action and adventure novels; Lee Child is a favourite. I also have a keen interest in history, particularly the Tudor period, so the novels of; CJ Sansom; SJ Parris; Rory Clements; James Forrester and Hilary Mantell also feature on my book shelf. I love the magical world of Harry Potter and have recently become interested in Scandinavian thrillers.

Charlie and the men in shoes is the first novel in the Charlie series. It's 100,000 words and I've uploaded it complete, so I hope you have time to look at it and, if you do, that you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating the eccentric world in which the characters live.

The magical Harry Potter series.

CHARLIE and the men in shoes

MD Shakespeare Fletcher

Almost three years ago Britain’s foremost authority on artificial intelligence was torn from his family by a rival’s terrible creation. Now the nightmare has returned.

Visited in the dead of night by D9, a secret department of British Intelligence, Elizabeth Bingham receives the unwelcome news that Jack Winter, the man thought to be responsible for her husband’s disappearance, is back in the UK.

Charlie thought he’d be safe at Uncle Harry’s Water Mill on the remote North Norfolk coast, but when D9 decide to evacuate the Bingham family there, it will only be a matter of time before he’s discovered and his fight to protect them all will commence.

From the sinister development laboratories buried beneath the searing sand and salt of Area 51, to the port of Marseilles, the beautiful, but dangerous, Brecon Beacons; training ground of the elite Special Air Service and the idyllic countryside of Norfolk and Somerset, the family are pitched into a battle for survival against one of the most fearsome weapon systems ever to be created.

But can the family succeed where Special Forces have failed to protect them? With Charlie, their newly found family member on their side, I wouldn’t bet against it.

Jo I spent a very happy weekend in the sun reading all 18 of the uploaded chapters of Lexi's Place and, although it’s clearly aimed at the female market, I really enjoyed it. You have a warm writing style, which is a little like having a cosy chat with a good friend. Your characters are well d... view book

Paul This book is absolutely hilarious, particularly chapter two which features the disastrous, for everyone but the boys, train journey to Scotland. At the beginning of the journey you really do have no idea as to how far the boys will go to cause trouble, whilst maintaining a carefully painted ... view book

Your opening chapter drew me in and I immediately wanted to know more about Carly and the situation in which she finds herself. The subsequent chapters gradually reveal the ci... view book

Sandie I'm so pleased that I found your book, because I really enjoyed your gentle writing style and imaginative plot. I've been explaining the book and reading out passages to my wife, who has become really interested in the story and will now start to read it herself, so I think that proves ... view book

Matty I'm halfway through Gobbeldygook and I'm really enjoying it. Your creation of a secret magical world is so intriguing and imaginative that it kept me reading way beyond what I had orginally intended. You've created some really strong characters, both good and evil, which filled my mind w... view book
