about me

I am a pastor in Ontario, Canada where I live with my beautiful wife Rachel and my wonderfully-rambunctious two-year-old Xander. I graduated with Highest Honors from Ottawa's Carlton University with a double major in Journalism and History, and a minor in English. I've always had a passion for writing and write in my spare time when I'm not doing pastoral work or managing and operating my business.

favourite books

Conn Iggulden's Julius Caesar and Genghis Khan sagas, Bernard Cornwell's historical fiction, Michael Curtis Fords' The Ten Thousand and Gods and Legions, Gilbert Morris' Winslow Series, The Thoenes' Zion Chronicles and Zion Covenant Series. Any well-written historical fiction or Christian historical fiction.

A War Within

Nathan D. Maki

When tragedy kills your faith what is left worth living -- and dying -- for?

A War Within has now been published by Pentecostal Publishing House!

It is available for order in trade paperback and e-book from their website at https://pentecostalpublishing.com/product/war-within.

Thank you for everyone who has backed my book and lent encouragement and constructive critiques that have made this dream a reality.

A War Within is Christian historical fiction based in Ancient Rome during the tumultuous "Year of the Five Emperors," AD 196.

When tragedy tears his family apart, Antonius is left doubting his faith and seeking vengeance. His quest for retribution embroils him in a devastating civil war with battles in the Eastern and Western Empire, before bringing him back to Rome to face his fears and his faith.

From the sands of the Coliseum to the distant battlefields of the Roman Empire, readers of all ages will thrill to the action, adventure and romance that fill these pages. But the real war is within. If God loves him how could this happen? And how could God demand that he forgive?

Youtube promo video now available at http://youtu.be/KFHeER48-Ok.

Many thanks to Bradley Wind for the amazing cover art.

Sometimes when all is lost all we can do is cling to the cross. Pressures and tragedies can push us away from God or press us closer to him. Congratulations on a tremendous, faith-building book! I'm happy to back it and give it six stars. Nathan Maki -A War Within view book

Wow, Jody, What an incredible story to inspire the title of your book. As I've worked down the list toward your book I've often wondered, "What does that title mean?" This story will stick with me for sure. I can identify with what you're talking about, doing street ministry. I did that for ... view book

Hi there, just here to read and comment on your book as promised. :) Sorry it's been a while, I've had a long list of reads. I like the first chapter, especially her confusion over what has happened to her. I think it would be even more effective if we somehow didn't know that she'd been chan... view book

Hi Phil, I found myself reading this chapter for pleasure instead of critquing it I'm afraid. Your fault for writing an engrossing, smooth-moving story. :) The only thing I did kind of stumble over was in one paragraph you have Dahlia praying that "someone" will find her daughter. In the next... view book
