about me

"My pen shall heal, not hurt." -L.M. Montgomery

There is so much power in words. As writers are some of the people with the greatest amount of this power, I like to see them use it in a positive way: to expand people's minds as well as benefit their hearts.

I like the analogy of the pen as a weapon, much like a sword. Just as a sword can be used both to save and to kill, so can words and the stories they form. In various ways and to various degrees. (In fact, the tongue can be even mightier! as the saying goes.) Stories easily engage people's imagination very deeply; for this reason I think authors have great responsibility for how they involve the imagination of their readers.

"Logic can get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere" -Albert Einstein

I believe in the education of the heart before the education of the mind, while both are important. In today's world, a lot of emphasis is solely on the mind at the expense of the heart. This is especially true for young people in school. To our privilege as writers, much of both (but especially the first) can be achieved and aided by stories -- wonderful, creative, fun stories that nourish the soul. Therefore, I like to keep the elements of the heart and the mind in thought while reading or writing.

My hope is to be able to entertain as well as enlighten through my stories. And below is my first novel in progress.

I would love to meet some new people here--both fellow writers and those who simply like to read. Particularly those who care about the effects of their writing and their readers. As I'm experimenting in a kind of new genre, any sincere comments would be especially appreciated. I only ask for an open mind.

The Arrowheads of Amiraz

Cloey Shine

Loyalty or justice? Rules or conscience? Your dream or others' freedom...

Sometimes in order to save others’ worlds, your world has to be the sacrifice.

After being disowned by their famous martial arts school, Yubica and her best friends enter the Soelot: the wider realm of commoners and martial artists, where power is the law. Capable, innocent and sweet, Yubica falls in a moment from a position of prestige to the ground of humiliation and discrimination. All because she helps a potential enemy. Along with her friends, she suddenly finds herself an object of wrath of the entire Righteous Order.

Now as renegades, they must run from their own side. Friends become enemies and enemies become friends. By their single act they unwittingly step into a spiral of chases, challenges and conspiracies, encountering a world they never knew.

In Book One, Yubica meets Panfras, a mysterious and attractive stranger, and his equally mysterious friend, with whose paths hers merge. Then appear his fellow clan members -- the arrowheads -- whose services are in the hands of the ruler of the dark side: the king enemy of the righteous sects.

In a conflict of mixed loyalties, Yubica and her friends must stand by each other and those they care about. They must also guard the Soelot against the grand evil schemes of the destroyers of peace.

Hi Elena, Thanks for your comment. "In any kind of society, plain-dressed is poor, and market people wouldn't look at him with interest and approval. Even worse if he's good looking." I cannot agree with that. They can look with approval, no matter how poor you are, if you are good-looking.... view book

Hi Elena, This seems like a good start. So far I think you have portrayed your characters, setting, etc. very well. Something I like that is you don't seem to over-describe things, such as in order to create tension. I think the tension at the start has been well created. While I don't enjoy ... view book

Hi, thank you for your comment. They might seem to talk young but they're actually not such simple, young characters as they might come across as so far. Their lighthearted talks are in line with and partly meant to emphasise the innocent, peaceful days the story begins with. It is also in ... view book
