about me

Originally from Sussex, now living in Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm a bookseller, a voracious reader and I'm working on my third manuscript - I am getting ready to upload my second soon. I love to read mysteries. I want a story to grab my attention and refuse to let go.

I back what I like sometimes my picks are in the top five - other times they're not. I do my best to give constructive criticism from a bookseller's point of view.

My MO has changed since last year. I don't respond to pitch messages any more. I prowl the new thriller lists, once I've read an ms I'll comment on it and if I really like it I will push it to my bookshelf and there it will stay until it arrives at the editors desk (like Stonefish or Apocalypse Then) or falls below the 1000 mark. If you choose to read my book I want honest feedback - not flattery. My goal isn't the Editor's desk it is polishing another book for publication.

I'm really grateful to all those authonomites (er is that the plural of authonomy readers?) who commented and backed Rollover last year. You're all amazing.

Rollover is heading for publication. I've got a fantastic editor. Watch this space for publication dates:-)

8/29/10
Not been on recently because of a car wreck but as I'm about to enter the editor phase, I'm going to read and comment all the books I have on my list but no more for the time being. I've gained some pretty valuable feedback from those of you kind enough to provide it (and over 140 backings) and once I've shepherded Rollover to publication I'll be looking for feedback on my second book.

9/18/10 I've taken Rollover off the the site - see above.

11/28/10 All those who have requested read swaps and re-backings or even re-reads I wish I could oblige but for now things are so crazy that I'm going to have to pass. I'm hoping to be back on the site with a second ms next year.

Stephen, your premise hooked me and I've read the first chapter. While I like the idea, there is a lot of over-description and repetition that slowed the read and pulled me out of the story. That said it means you could cut a lot (especially adverbs) to bring the story out. Keep at it. Paula L ... view book

Alva, have read everything you posted. Enjoyed the setting and the historical anchor of the moon landings. The dialogue, especially that of the kids opens different layers in the story, race, social class, peer pressure and possibly unemployment. Will, I absolutely loved this - all those twists and turns, some well thought out mis-direction, concise chapters, a real page-turner. Part of the reason for this site is to give advice and I did have a couple of niggles, the first one would be fixed with the help of an editor, the second is the di... view book

Ian, what a great imagination you have. Elements of Alice in Wonderland, Lord of the Rings, Lion Witch and the Wardrobe mixed in with a little Monty Python. I do have a few niggles, in the opening chapter some of the description repeats even using the same word at times. You could tighten quite a... view book
