about me

I'm here to mix with people who write.

Thank you to everyone who helped get Shadow Jumper to the desk. I am now working on a new project so won't be able to read and comment as much as I have been. But I'll pop back every now and then!

Where the idea for Shadow Jumper came from -

My two sons like jumping from one shadow to another and it was from watching them the idea first took root. I then found out about Spring-heeled Jack, a bizarre, evil character from Victorian folklore, who was said to be able to make amazing leaps and hops. He would commit his dastardly deeds and escape across the rooftops. My Jack's not like that, but he does like jumping.

I have to thank my dad for the idea of a character suffering from photosensitivity. Not being able to go out in strong sunlight is something he's had to put up with for many years.

Shadow Jumper is complete but not all is posted on this site. If you have a genuine interest to read the rest, please contact me.

If I have forgotten to return a read, please give me a nudge!

Many thanks to all of you who have commented and provided advice so far. I love feedback, whatever you have to say.

Front cover: with many thanks to Bradley Wind.

Shadow Jumper

Julia Forster

Confined to the shadows because of a rare skin allergy, Jack needs help from his missing dad before it's too late.

Fourteen-year-old Jack Phillips’ allergy to sunlight confines him to the shadows, leaving him bored, lonely and at risk of life-threatening burns every time he steps outside. Now his skin condition has gone berserk and only his absent scientist dad can help him. Desperate to find him, Jack and his new friend, Beth, embark on a frantic search. But as he delves into the past for clues, he uncovers shocking rumours and secrets. Confused and panicked, Jack has to take dangerous risks in his search for answers, finally learning to face the truth about his debilitating allergy.

Shadow Jumper is a psychological mystery story for 9 +.

It is complete at 41,000 words, but only some chapters uploaded here.

My comment disappeared so here it is again, I hope! Return read for your comment on Shadow Jumper. I have only been able to read the first chapter of this and I can already tell you are an accomplished writer. You make it all seem so easy. Everything you write flows beautifully and although this... view book

Just read your third story. This is very funny and my imagination is running wild at the thought of the illustrations. Have you done any? A few little errors here and there that need to be mopped up, otherwise I thought the story worked well. Back soon. Jx view book

YARG and return read for Shadow Jumper Well, this is a surprise. I mean that in the nicest possible way. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this half as much as I am. I'm not a great fan of fantasy, but I think I might make an exception for your story. I liked the prologue - I thought it worked well.... view book

Return read for your support of Shadow Jumper. I've read the first five Autho chapters and I think this is excellent. It's perfectly pitched for the younger reader )I'm thinking the 8-12 age group - is this what you intended?). I really like the storyline - the environment is a really current the... view book

Wonderful descriptive writing that really brings alive the colourful world you have created. I have read the first two chapters and although to start with I wasn't sure about this book (for some reason the talking chitter birds at the start irritated me) the story has grown on me and I think the pr... view book
