101 ways to Kill Yourself

Hartley Pool

In this dialogue-driven dramedy, Hartley tries to survive a summer of romance, rehabilitation and revelations in small-town 1990's Colorado.

You can never fulfill your fantasies – that’s why they’re your fantasies.

At least that’s been Hartley Pool’s experience of life and love, but perhaps The American Way is about to change things.

Marooned in Estes Park as a male maid in a horrifically misjudged attempt to recover his sanity, Hartley lurches from a failed obsession with the best conversation he ever had to a series of forehead-slapping near misses with the woman who could change his life forever. Serendipity smiles, but their brief, beautiful time together looks like becoming just another opportunity he let slip through the cracks in his brain as he crashes headlong towards his destiny and can only hope that it’s still there.

Stranger In Taiwan - Part One

Hartley Pool

When Hartley landed in Taiwan he had a job, a girlfriend and a feeling that things might just work out right this time.

Experience love, life and laughter in one of the world's less well-known countries. The author lived in Taipei for seven years, and barely made it out alive; laugh with him as he explores the temples and night markets, the inner depths of his own troubled psyche and the outer reaches of his wife's patience.

Dear Peck, Thank-you for your comment. Could you give me an example of where the text rambled, so I can decide whether this is an area I want to address? I was in two minds about the vulgar language when I first started the project. In the end I decided that as this is a non-fiction work, I wa... view book

Dear Janine, Thanks for your positive comments - it's a non-fiction account of my time there (and how I met my wife). I look forward to reading more of your work when I have a bit of time. All the best, Hartley view book
